Hi, I am thinking about leaving the UK to join my partner who is currently working in Alesund. He moved out in October 2015 and would love us to join him. We have 2 little girls aged 7&3 just wanted non bias information if possible. Is it a good place to bring up children? Will we struggle not knowing the language initially? Any information you can give will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks Louise :)

This isn't the place to look. You don't give enough information. Will you be allowed to work in a country to which you're tax liable? Do you like clearing snow3? Driving on snow and Ice? Can you afford the private health care? if your husband is making phenomenal money .... hundred grand a year, you may have fun, otherwise forget it. If you inherit money in the UK whilst in Norway for more than 62 days, it needs declaring. Can you speak, read and write Norwegian? Is your husband a migrant worker or resident? I'd forget the idea now. Internet full of horror stories about Norway. Your husband may well only live in Norway for tax purposes. You don't know what that means? Read the book ...
I wouldn't bother. You should read all posts here, read a book called "Working in Norway" by Warren Davies. Oslo might be easier but not Alesund. If you think everything through, you'll realise it's a bad idea. Norway is survivable with the support of extended family. You don't have that.

Thank you for your honest reply. I will have a job if I want it, my partners work have offered me a position. I can speak/read/write basic Norwegian as too can the girls. I lived in Canada for several years, so can drive in snow and ice. We do have family in Norway, however they are in Trondheim and Oslo. I don't wish to give salary details out but yes we are comfortable. Girls both attend private school here and I pay for private healthcare. Thank you for your opinion though, it has given me a lot to think about.

I don't have children so can't speak for that experience. I also had basic norweigan I moved here and nothing was as easy or as normal as I expected. I didn't however have a decent job offer and moved from the uk for a basic job to be with my partner. Through a lot of mental struggles, I now have friends and a good job, I have better norweigan but still every day learning. I made the right choice for my life. My advise is I found the difference extremely negative and it took a lot of soul searching to decide it was not negative just different.
