Hello, we are a family from Germany (with two boys age 6 and 8) and are plannig our move to Oman this year. Can anybody tell me about difficulties or problems which non-native english children have to face at the TAISM or other schools (if existent) in Muscat?
And what about safety there?
Please write soon...

Sigi,

I am a Brit with kids at the British School(BSM) so I cannot comment specifically on the issue but the school has many different European and other nationalities. Most people here work for or around the Oil company, Petroleum Development Oman of which Shell has a stake. Accordingly, there are lots of Dutch and British expats. Besides TAISM and BSM there is the French School and the American British Academy.

As far as security is concerned, my family and I feel safe , of course things can change but so could they also change if one was in London or Berlin - its no more than that. Personal safety is also not an issue, ok the driving is a bit sporting but not as bad as a lot of other countries I have been to.

It is a great place to live particularly with young children.

Hello! I can't comment on the school situation in Muscat but I am sure that it will be a great place to raise children. I am a teacher here in Oman (about 2 hour drive out of Muscat) and enjoy the trips into Muscat. This is probably the most beautiful country in the Gulf, as I have lived in another Arab country, and thoroughly enjoy it very much. The Omani people are probably THE MOST FRIENDLIEST people here in the Gulf region! Sightseeing and taking driving trips are most spectacular here! Mountain climbing and exploring rank high on my list of things to do! I really like this country and I am sure that you will too!
Any specific questions, please do not hesitate to write me! I would be happy to answer any questions!

Hi Sigi,
i recently moved to muscat with my husband and i am also german (from Kiel). I don´t know much about Muscat and i don´t have kids yet (just married) but i would be happy to help you out with anything or explore things together. I have to admit that i miss good old Germany. So it would be nice to get in touch with you.
Before i moved to Muscat i was staying 10 months in Duba, so i have some experience in living in the gulf.
Hope to hear from you soon. My email: Sousann@gmx.de

We are thinking of moving to Muscat, it looks so lovely. About grocery things I was wandering if you can find biologic products such fruits and vegetables, flour, sugar, soya milk etc.
