Hi David - only just picked this up and assume you have made your decision by now. However, Shatti al Qurum is the most expensive area to live and you won't get any change out of OMR800, that's if you can find a rental for that. OMR6K is a generous figure for furniture, which is very cheap. For example, a 5 burner cooker would cost iro OMR250 (for very good, western brand). Otherwise, a four burner would cost iro OMR150. A three piece suite would cost in range OMR350-500. Food, entertainment, groceries are extremely cheap. Hotel restaurants are excellent and more expensive than the local restaurants, but cheaper than eating out in London, for example. Hope this helps, and good luck :-)
