Are 300 enough to comfortably live, have hobbies, go out once a week in Muscat?

I have been offered an accounting teaching position at a college in Salala. The salary was less than Kuwait and the same as I earn in USA with doctorates. I was told that the average rent is 200 per month and transportation is 150. I was very surprised that I have to pay my transportation to come. I will have 3 days to find a place to live. I will have utilities and other expense not paid in Kuwait. Should I take the job? I read some angry blogs about Oman and Americans.
