Hi, We are also moving to Muscat this summer. I have two boys 9 & almost 12. Have you heard anything about the schools? We are looking at the British School and TAISM.

hi Kayakgirl,
I have no first hand experience with the schools in Oman but I've read positive notes on TAISM. Have you found a place to live in Oman? We're due to arrive there in 2wks. Wish me luck. :)

hi, we're also moving to muscat this summer. if you're not planning to work, i suggest you join the AWG (american women's guild) in muscat, they have a list of activities that you can join in, there's details of it online. good luck with the move and maybe we'll meet up in muscat soon...

Hi Dina, I'm moving some time in August (early August).
What kind of activities do the AWG do?
Also any advice on what to wear for things like swimming / walking round, is it best to have clothes below the knees and elbows?

Hello. I only lived in Oman for only three months, but there are so many outdoor activiites one can do here. For walking there is a private garden for women and children...I have to consult my Oman Guide book, but definately, you will want to wear more modest clothing. I know were many who wore tighter pants and tops with short sleeves, but personally I would just wear those at home. If you really want to be blend in and be acccepted long modest clothing is best, especially with their heat and humidity in August!
I rememeber coming into Muscat Intl at 9:30 at night and I was wearing long, but that heat and humidity hit me like a tidal wave! It is best to buy eastern style clothing or have it made because the air needs to ciiculate throughout the body. There is a very logical reason why they were the clothing that they wear in the Gulf. If you would like more info, email me back at Chiantihodu@yahoo.com.

Hello Lafayette, They have various activities ranging from shopping trips to dubai, to meet the chefs (in muscat), pizza making for the kids, dhow trips, etc. They have a list of activities on their website, with the people to contact, for each one you are interested in. Like Sarah mentioned, it is best to dress modestly as it is also practical with the heat esp in August. Maybe we should all arrange to meet up once we're all settled there. Good luck with the move!

Hi Ladies, I will be also moving to Oman in August. I am also looking into the TAISM. My kids go in Doha now also to the American school. They will be then 7/9 years. I am also pregnant from our 3 child. Does Oman have something like the time out and a Marhaba? It helped me a lott in Doha. I am also looking for prenatal gym or classes and a good hospital. I hope you ladies can help me. Has any of you ladies already sinned the kids up at the TAISM? I would be gratefull for answers.

Hi JoeGal
Muscat is an incredible place if youre the active type as you can get out at weekends and visit the surrounding mountains, wadis and desert.
In town, there are lots of activities like the AWG and the Womens Guild. Also worth doing is going to see Gulf Property World ( locally run real estate agent almost entirely run by devoted Brits) who can hook you up with a great place to rent or even to buy if you are here for long enough! Their website is currently down but will be back up and running in 3 weeks from today ( www.gpw-oman.com ).
Out of all the schools I hear that ABA is the best but then again if you wanted to live where the rest of the expat community live with the kids you need to look at living on The Wave which is a new development out here with villas, apartment and townhouses ( the first place where expats can actually BUY a home too). There are families that I know that have moved here solely so that their kids can all be nearer their friends in a safe, clean friendly environment!
For any other info, there are so many places to enquire. Best of luck with it all. Dont go looking for a house in August as there will be nothing great left by then..best to start early and come over for a weekend in late June before the rush!

Hi,
the sooner you find a property to make your home the better you will settle in as the furnished accommodation people move into when they arrive here is not the best. I had a great experience with a company called engel & voelkers real estate. www.engelvoelkers.com/oman
good luck with the move!!!
