I've just found the perfect book for anyone moving to Oman. It's called Explorer Oman (I'm sure your bookshop can hunt this down for you) It has all the information on living in Oman (including maps of the city), every question you can think of is answered here.
For those who need to find a place to live, let me know as I can recommend the agent that helped us find our villa. Good luck with the move!

Hi

I have recently moved to Oman and used a relocation agent. The company helped us with houses and schools for our kids which was great and I know they do other things to help with your move. It really helped us as it allowed my husband to concentrate on his new job and me to concentrate on settling the kids. Their details are www.sununumuscat.com.
