Hi, I' m new to this Forum. My wife and I are retired and considering retirement in Panama. We are especially interested in the Boquete area.
We would like very much to converse with someone who has retired to, or has knowledge of this area.
For starters, we hear that the climate is ideal. It sounds too good to be true. Is it? Next, we have approx. $4,500/mo retirement income. How comfortable could we live on that? Also, I am an Internet nut, and do a lot of on-line stock trading. Is there a hi-speed internet connection available, like DSL or Cable Broadband? I have many more questions and would like very much to talk to someone. My direct e-mail: ripet503@yahoo.com

Do you know of a web site that compares cities in Panama and Costa Rica for retirement . I am leaning toward Boquete Pamana. I would really like to get more information. Which are the safest cities to retire in?

Sir I have lived in both Costa Rica and Panama and Panama is definitely the best. People compare Costa Rica to Switzerland but this is not the case. Costa Rica is a very dirty country, the roads are atrocious, they will rob you on the street in broad daylight. However, in Panama (I lived in David) they use the U.S. dollar for currency and inflation is very, very low. The people genuinely like Americans. They have several large supermarkets in David that are as nice as any here. The American type food stuffs are slightly higher, but everything else is very cheap. So on a scale of 1 to 10, Costa Rica would be "maybe" a 2 while David is a solid 9 or 10. If you would like any more information about the requirements there in Panama, e-mail me at ezflyer36@yahoo.com

Sorry lost my password again..sending reply now on the exchange
Dear Sir, my name is Donald T. Lee, Trade and Travel Consultant(Netondas Trading Group) based in Central America, I read your Post on the "Expat Exchange" this morning and am sending you a Website in English with info. on the Boquete Region of Panama view: http://www.worldheadquarters.com/panama/destinations/chiriqui/boquete/ The Area is Mountainous, Coffee is produced here and is in Western Panama in the Department(or State) of Chiriqui near the city of David. My associate in Panama, Sra. Cordelia Vigil, is native of same Chiriqui Department and works with the Banco Nacional de Panamá(Panamanian National Bank) in Panama City, and she and her associates there can assist you in obtaining Residency and avoiding red tape etc., as $4,500 a Month is more than sufficent. After a breif business trip to the USA in May I am planning to head down to Panama to set up operations there as the Travel Industry here in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras has become somewhat "stagnant" due to events beyond our control. Sra. Vigil and I should be able to answer any and all questions you may have regarding relocating, and perhaps meet with you if you decide to travel to Panama "Netondas" has a Toll free USA Tel/Fax Number c/o Joseph Tillery CTO 1(866)323-6089 http://www.netondas.com/ Regards, Donald T. Boquete is a nice little town. With that pension, you'd live like a king. Panama City though has larger U.S. retiree population.

To answer your question about the climate, yes, the climate is very nice. About 55-80 degrees year round. That low temperature would be at nighttime. As for the rain it would depend on what you are used to or what you like. It can be very wet at times. Your retirement income is more then enough. If that is a combined retirement income then I think you would only have to use one of the incomes to qualify for a pensionado resident visa. That is $500. a month plus $100. more for each dependent. How much you need to be comfortable depends on what you need to be comfortable. I know many who live in the area for much less. To my knowledge there is no high speed internet connections in Boquete. Yet. It should not be long in coming because the area is growing fast. I will ask around about this. I live on the other side of the volcano from Boquete. Here we do have some access to a satellite connection depending on your location. Most of us here have a slow 28,800 speed connection.

Demetrio, I'm also interested in retiring to the Boquete area. My retirement isn't neary that of the other reply ($4,000+/mo). Mine's going to be that of a poor working slob of about $750/mo total. Could I live there for that? Thanks, Steve

Boquete and Panama is the new frontier. We will be down there the end of Sept. with Panamanian friends from the area who work in Panama City and will be eager to help you look around without a hand out for money eveytime you turn around. San Jose and other cities in CR have become downright dangerous if you do not use caution. Mass Tourism everywhere. E mail me salbiztours@yahoo.com for more info. if you require it.

Read your message on the Expat Exchange and you mentioned car business was good. We shipped our Buick Regal into Panama and it sold very well. Is there a market for a red, 2001, diesel Peugeot, five door with 68,000 km on it. If so, what could it sell for approximately. We are in France and looking to send the car to Panama when we retire. Merci beaucoup. Sue
