Amazing, my 1st time to look at this site and I have the same question about schools. My kids are 12,10 and 8. I want to retire in Panama but must have a very good school for my kids. Advice will be greatly appreciated.

Hello........
I just saw your message in regards to looking for a good school for your kids. In my experience overseas, you can't go wrong with the International School of Panama. The school is a bit more out of town, but the location is great for activites. The core program for the kids is an american curriculum. The after school activities are enjoyed by all (two outside courts, one indoor). In addition, the club and golf course in right next door and many of the kids go there after school
Overall, the International School has a strong educational program, involved parents, and the staff and adminstration are supportive. Good lluck.
Sincerely,
Olivia

According to the State Department, in the 2003-2004 school year, ISP annual tuition rates are as follows: PK: $3,660; Kdg.: $6,160; grades 1-5: $6,428; grades 6-8: $7,160 and grades 9-12: $7,960 payable in U.S. dollars.

Keep that in mind when choosing a school

There are numerous good schools in panama. ISP has been mentioned (international school of panama) and has a great cirriculum and teaching staff. And the newer Balboa Academy (BalboaAcademy.org) is quickly becoming a very well respected alternative as well. Other schools are less expensive Crossroads christian etc... and there is always the option of home schooling as well. I grew up in Panama and was fortunate enough to attend Dodds schools while the US had a military presence there. I can honestly say Panama has much to offer and will provide you a lifetime of opportunity of things to do and see. Cost of living is very inexpensive, once you live there for a while and know how to shop where to go who to talk to etc... Like any forgein country, there are places and people who see americans as rich and thus try to take advantage of them. Tourist traps will suck your wallet dry. The best defense is trial and error and learning spanish is a must. Although most panamanians speak some level of english, you will be more respected and less likely to be taken advantage of if you can speak and understand what is going on around you. All in all though the people are super friendly, and when you do manage to make a "local friend", they will stay your friend and be a loyal companero. Beautiful country, beautiful people. I can't waitn to get back.
