I understand pensionados don't have to pay import tax on their car. Can anyone advise me on the how's and how much of bringing a car to Panama?

The import tax can be waived, and it is a sizeable amount. Problems arise when the dealership doesn't know how to process the transaction.

Hi! We are in the process of relocating to Panama from Chicagoland. The thing you have to be careful with is that there is a 5% accessed value of the car that WILL be charged. Customs decides on the value.

Hola,
I am interested in shipping my car to Panama City from the East Coast of the U.S. (anywhere along the entire East Coast is possible). Does anyone have any advice? Names of companies or costs to ship? Are there import taxes to be paid?
Thank you.

Autos are quite inexpensive in Panama. Before paying the costs of shipping, consider just buying a new one. Same with computers and many other goods.
