You need a good lawyer to talk with, and I recommend that you talk to many different lawyers. Initial consultations are free and you had best be educated before you start into it.....Look on the net for what it is you need. Many of us have done it years ago and it has all changed.....Only the lawyers keep up to date on it...........jT

Well I guess if your to lazy to do a web search I'll help you anyway.. lol...
cost is going to run you around 1050.00 to apply. not counting a lawyer which you will need to get all your other paperwork together for you and file it all. maybe another 2k there.
you will need. a police report from NCIC or your local police station that can pull up your records on the NCIC computer showing that you are not wanting by any law office anywhere in the u.s. or the world.
you will need a letter from your bank showing how long you have had a account with them and you are in good standings with them. you will need to show 1000.00 per month income and proof to show that. like a S.S. check. can't be you have rent coming in on something, or payments coming in on something you own or rent.. must be full time for life.
you will need a marriage lic. if you are. you will need to have all this stamped by the panama embassy in the U.S. then you bring it all down here to apply. you have three months and then all your paperwork is no good and you can start over.
you will also once here need a doctor to state your in good health.

If you need an immigration attorney, which I believe you do in order to deal with the bureaucracy that exists everywhere regarding this issue, I can recommend to you our Immigration attorney. She has a B. A. and Law Degrees and knows everyone in the Immigration Office, very reliable, plus is completely bilingual. You may contact her at:

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

If you are still in the US, get an original of the letter from SS that says how much you will receive each month and that it is for the rest of your life. Must be at least $1000. per month to apply for pensionado visa. Then contact via the internet the FBI and request the form for a criminal background check , fill it out, send in the fee and they will send it to you. or contact the agency listed previously and they will do it. As of last week It can NOT be done by your local police dept any longer. After you have these letters, send them or take them to your secretary of state office in whatever state you live in. Tell them you are moving to Panama and need an international seal called an apostille stamped on both of them. They will know exactly what to do. They will charge a small fee and usually get them back to you within just a few days. Bring both of these forms with you when you come to Panama and then contact an ENGLISH SPEAKING attorney who comes recommended from other expats only. At this time you have to use a Panamanian atty...you can not do this on your own. Don't just go to the first atty. that you see and try to get this done. You will surely end up on the wrong end of the stick. Once again....only use an atty. who comes recommended by someone you know. I know of two atty's in Las Tablas area but you'll have to ask other expats if this is not where you will be living. Your cost will be about 1000 to 1500 for the atty. and about 200-300 in various other fees. Sometimes the atty includes these fees to the govt. and sometimes they don't....ask first. Oh. these two letters that you will need must be translated into Spanish. You can do that once you are here and your atty. will help you find a translator. You do not need to have this Spanish copy certified, as you will submit both the English and the Spanish copies. Last week the Panama govt. made it possible to apply for a permanent residency visa. The rules on this are still somewhat vague, but you will need to show 5000 in the bank plus your other two forms and you can apply for this visa. You can then get permanent residency here and even get a cedula card like the Panamanians all carry. Your lawyer will be able to explain all this to you once you get here. This whole process took me 7 months to get my card, but you recieve a tempory card when you first submit all your paperwork. It can take as long as a year and as short as a few months it all depends on how busy the immigration office is. Once you're here a while you'll find out that nothing happens fast and that if something can go wrong it will. If you're a type A, you might want to think about staying in the US, you won't like it here.
