looking for a driver

We'll be in Panama for a week or so in November, mostly in Panama City, scoping it out to move down there in 2014. We would love to find an experienced driver with a vehicle and fairly decent English, to take us out of the city for a couple of days. Would also like to know about how much we should expect to pay, over and above gas costs, if we can find someone.

We paid $80 for a taxi cab driver who picked us up at The Decameron resort and took us shopping all day long at Albrook and other places, and then took us back to the Decameron Resort later that night. I would think that waving a $100 bill at a taxi cab driver, would go a long way. Don't give it to him until the end of the day however........just wave it at him as he drives you around......parks, and waits for you in parking lots. They would love $150, but I believe that $100 should give you a full day of being driven around. Yellow taxi cabs in Panama City are hugely abundant........ jT

On the other hand, cab drivers vary quite a bit from the standpoint of being friendly and helpful. If it was me and I was on vacation, I would want a quality experience. Going with a recommendation vs. taking a chance on just anyone to save a few bucks would not be the way for me. Your mileage may vary.

Also, you'll find that very few random cab drivers speak English. Go with recommendations. I am sending you a recommendation for someone-he lives in El Valle but knows the city well too.

There is a reliable and professional driver service that is becoming well known for their drivers and service.

Many of our friends and visitors use them now for airport trips, errands, day trips and familiarization trips from Panama City to the Beach Communities & El Valle -
One couple staying at a B&B in Panama City hired their driver for 6 days on their last trip here. Every day they did familarization day trips, to see the various areas and get un-biased information from a local resident. It allowed them to make an informed decision on where to re-locate.
They have reasonable rates, their drivers are local residents here, Government approved, licensed and speak English fluently. There drivers are based in Panama City and Coronado Beach.
Our friends went where they wanted to go- shopping, lawyers, doctors, canal, dinner, city & day trips to Anton, El Valle, Santa Clara, San Carlos & Coronado and all around the city.

You can reach them by email.

Hope this helps.
Enjoy your trip.
