It's not recommended walking the streets of Panama City at 1:30am. You are just asking for trouble. Be prepared for emergencies. Learn from others and this story below won't happen to you. I am told that 240-4222 rings to an English translator for the police. Here is an unfortunate story of something that happened to a person a few days ago
"At about 1:30am May 12 2013 I was walking back to my apartment from the Vento hotel when a taxi looking vehicle passed by me and slammed on its brakes. 2 guys jumped out and started after me. I started running and tripped on the bad sidewalk and fell to the ground. They jumped on me and took all my valuables, wallet, watch, keys, etc. anything they could get, one held me down while the other went through my all my pockets. I did not put up much of a fight after falling, got scratched up on my hands and legs so I just let them have their way with me since I couldn't do anything. I just covered my face and they did their thing and were gone in less than a minute, I was thankful I wasn't hurt and could walk home. I called the police, didn't get much help, the 104 number finally answered. I don't speak much Spanish, and they just hung up on me. I called the other police number 316-0080 like 5-6 times repeatedly and they just hung up when they didn't understand me. I finally gave up and started calling my credit card service numbers and started canceling them. One question, if anyone can help, MY RESIDENT CARD WAS ALSO LOST. WHERE DO I GO TO REPLACE THAT CARD, I USE IT ALL THE TIME. ANY HELP APPRECIATED, I HAVE HAD IT SINCE 2004, I HAVE A COPY OF IT.
> THE INCIDENT HAPPENED 1/2 BLOCK NORTH OF THE LUXOR TOWER, CLOSE TO 53rd STREET AND NAVARRO STREET INTERSECTION APPROX: 130 AM 5/12/2013 > ANY HELP ON HOW TO FILE A POLICE REPORT SO POLICE WILL AT LEAST KNOW THIS TYPE OF THING IS HAPPENING WOULD BE APPRECIATED> THANKS"
