A couple of websites I have read talk about a "Traveling Passport" issued by Panama to either the holder of a rentista visa or a person who can deposit something like $200,000.00 U.S. in a five-year CD in a Panamanian bank.
Would anyone here know how useful these "traveling passports" are for travel outside Panama? Can they be used with no other passport? Thanks for any input. (Apologies if I duplicated this post.)

My Family and I had this "rentista retirado" for our first Five years in Panama and also "Traveling Passports". They were not helpful at all in our case.
Developed countries will always look at your place of birth and nationality, and then ask for that passport. When returning to Panama they knew even less of what to with their own documents. So it served no purpose for us traveling between the US and Europe.

Thank you for your answer - very helpful. I had been considering this as a second passport, but from what you say it would not be all that advantageous. I suppose it WOULD gain me lawful residence IN Panama, but it would not help me as far as traveling OUTSIDE Panama.
Unfortunately true "economic citizenships" are quite expensive.

Hello WillG,
You have other inexpensive options to get your Permanent Resident Status in Panama.
In no more than 3 months you can get Permanent Resident Status in Panama, and 5 years later you can become a Panamanian Citizen and get a Real Panamanian Passport that will be very helpful traveling around the world if that is what you are looking for.

Thank you as well. I agree that would be the best option if one seeks a true Panamanian passport. I'll look into the requirements and think about this.
