Hi, Im moving to Panama, hopefully in October 2014. I know it's a big place, but any suggestions on where to live? It will be me and my 17 yo daughter. I work online, so anywhere with an internet connection, pref. close to the beach......and a real bonus would be a quaker group!
Hope to hear from you all soon :)

Coronado area if you have the bucks, Las Tablas area if you don't. Don't know about Quakers.

I have never heard anything specific about Quakers in Panama, but there are many in Costa Rica. They have a hostel in San Jose, called the Casa Ridgeway, run by the Friends
peace Center: www.amigosparalapaz.org.
There are also many up by Monteverde where they settled many years ago. If you can make contact with someone there, they should be able to help you locate Friends in Panama. Peace.

I would like to know what you find. I have never found a church that was a fit at all for me but I must say that I really enjoyed the Quaker services that I attended. About as non-dogmatic, non-authoritative as you can get.

If you like the beach, Gorgona is about 10 min to Coronado. The rental is lower. I've been there for about 5 yrs and absolutely love it. My friend is renting a nice 3 br condo, great internet speed. If you are interested, let me know.

We are still considering the beach, could you please PM me the info? I appreciate it, thanks! We should be in country early Oct, possibly sooner.

Coronado is where I live.6 minutes to beach-6 minutes to town with 4 markets and banks - One hour plus to Panama City with major medical facilities. Look at my home on TryPanama.com(the one on the golf course) (lots of gringos and lots of diverseness)

Think about your desires. Based on your answer will tell you where to live based on many years in Panama.
1. you already have stated you want near the sea so that is a start.
2. Medical care is first class in Panama City but iffy elsewhere so you should not locate more than 1 1/2 hours from help.
3. Is your life style, a.middle class. b. upper middle class. c. used to first class with all amenities.
If you will kindly give me the above answers will really try to help you decide. It is very nice you are seeking help in advance. Those who do not get located into their usual life style do not last long in Panama. Kind regards, Ed.
