How are purchases made on line and shipped to Panama viewed / handled by the local government? ie: drugs, clothes, tools. Are they treated differently than things sent by friends or family members? thnx ,

Many packages are opened and sealed back up. People put values like $5 on an item to avoid paying any taxes. If it is estimated that it is worth a lot more than $5, tax will be added when you pick it up. I bought a $250 power supply for the TV, and although next to nothing was allocated for it's value, I got taxed on it because they included an invoice in the package. We use most of the same services in Panama that you use in North America. DHL, FEDEX, UPS, Mailboxes Etc., and many folks buy from Amazon and have it shipped to Panama or North America, and pick it up while back there. It depends on the taxes and shipping involved. A small envelope from Mailboxes etc. can cost $5.50 where a little box like a TV power supply can cost $3.50. Makes no sense, but this is Panama...........
