This is so helpful for us! We are on our way in November ( my husband is going down first) and I will follow in January. The sad news is that I was particularly interested in how things went with the dogs...because we were bringing our dog too! But alas, today's vet visit brought bad news for our little doggy...and we will most likely have to put him down before we go. Great amount of tears here tonight! But I will be following your progress...and wish you luck! Maybe we will meet up in January! Regards, Carrie Weiler

So sad to hear about your dear companion. If he/she pulls through, pease ask again. I just went through the entire procedure for bringing pets to Panama. Not so difficult, after all.

The price varies depending on the size of the dog, the airline, who you get to help you or if you do it yourself etc. Friends just brought a massive dog to Panama, a Bull Mastiff, and it ended up costing them $8000 for the oversize cage, and a special airline who could accommodate the dog. Most folks I speak with say $1000 will cover each pet when all is said and done, and some report that it costs less..........

Just did this--$130 cash, for the Panamanian vet, upon arrival, plus $16 cash for the paperwork. You need to bring the Rabies certificate and APHIS 7001 form issued by your vet. Download the ""Home Quarentine Request" form from www.minsa.gob.pa. I also retained the Tocumen Royal Saloon services at PTY. Best investment, ever!

Congrats on the move! I read some of your blog and see that you are friends with Holly C. We are planning to meet her and our friends Luana and Bond when we return next month for our 2nd trip to Boquete in 6 months. We are in the investigation stage for a move there in the next 1-2 years, (hopefully not longer than that).
My husband will be playing at Mike's Grill one night between 5/17 - 5/21, so if you're around, stop by and said "hi"!

Looking forward to reading more of your blog, but as I write this, we are sitting in our hotel room in David, and will leave in 2 days for our short term rental in Boquete! We made the permanent move on April 1, and have been traveling the country for the month of April before the rain starts. We are planning to settle in Boquete after much research, several trips to Panama, and great advice from other expats! We received our Pensionado visas shortly after arrival (we had planned and made prior trips so the process would be complete when we moved), and our final hurdle will be obtaining our Panamanian driver's licenses next month. It's great to read about everyone's experiences and benefit from others who have gone before us - thanks to all who share your stories and your resources!
