There are no hills above Pedasi as it is sea level and so are all the towns around it for many, many miles. The Azeuro Peninsula does not have mountain ranges. You have to get above the Pan American highway, and head for the hills, or the spine of Panama that runs east and west. As Lou mentioned, there is a small community above Santiago called Santa Fe where the temperatures are slightly cooler because of the altitude. It has a population of 3200 and lies at an altitude of about 430 meters or 1400 feet. It is nowhere near the beach or ocean. Mountains and oceans do not collide in Panama. Ocean and beach all around the outer perimeter, and mountains running up the center of Panama.

P.S. if you go thru Santiago look for George Butler from Beaumont, TX lot's of luck, but if you stop at one of car dealers (forget which one) they will take you to his house. He live west of town, south side of the Pan Am near the 3 "push buttons" *Ö*

I visited Valle Rico in the high hills of cental Azuero and thought it was very nice. Not as high as Boquete and Volcan but cool. Out of Pedasi go north on the main road until you get to Pocri. The road from there goes west to Valle Rico.

I forgot to tell you the other route which is more scenic. Take the road to Venao but go past it all the way to El Cacao. Turn north and follow that road past La Miel to Valle Rico.

Trying determine the miles but it looks like the scenic route is about 80 miles and the route through Pocri is about 50 miles.

Altitude of Valle Rico: 114 meters or 375 feet. Not very cool there. Altitude of Boquete 1200 meters or 3900 feet. Altitude of Volcan 1400 meters or 4500 feet. Of course Boquete and Volcan are in the mountains, so the altitude changes a lot depending where you are. They are both built on hills and mountains so your altitude can change every 5 or 10 minutes when driving around.

Try Cerro Canajagua a few minutes drive from Valle Rico (to the base). It's 778 meters / 2553 feet. A friend has a farm up there in Flor Amarilla. There are a number of small towns (villages) up there. It's plenty cool. Only 20 minutes or so from our place in Las Tablas. Reference: http://peakery.com/cerro-canajagua-panama/

I never got to Canajagua but always wanted to go there. I was told it was mostly a farming community. Maybe you would know the mileage to Valle Rico. I think I was way off.
