Chitre Shopping

Post New Topic

We will be taking the bus from Albrook to Chitre before getting a taxi from there to a beach rental. Hoping someone here has suggestions on where (and how to get to ) to shop in Chitre. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Also, does anyone know if the Grand International Hotel in PC is within walking distance of the fish market (not the restaurant) ?

Thank you.

What are you shopping for? There is a mall with Madison, Arrocha, todo a Dollar, Rey and specialty shops. Elsewhere, building supply, Spiegel, Novey, furniture/appliance stores and a great restaurant supply. I don't know my way around the entire town yet, but there is more.

Chitre has great shopping for the size of the town. The mall is great and very modern. It's relatively new and was an unexpected pleasure to find in the Azeuro.

Thanx for responding. Thinking the first stop will be for groceries mainly. Any suggestions for directions from the bus stop ?

That hotel in Panama City is not walking distance to the fish market.

I'm assuming that you're renting at playa rompio or monagre as they are the only real beaches around Chirtre. The bus terminal is on the downtown bypass road very close to the main road that runs to Las tablas. The closest grocery store to the terminal is Super 99...it's about a quarter of a mile and anyone at the bus terminal can point you in the right direction, or for about a dollar you can take a taxi. Super 99 is like a walmart...just a little smaller....you can buy groceries, domestics, tires, paint, glassware and most anything else. It's in a small shopping center with a Mc D's, banks and a good chinese restaurant. Across the street is Do It Center.....like a small Home Depot. A little way up the street is KFC. If you come out of the center and turn right and follow the street for less than 1/2 a mile you'll be in downtown chitre. Super 99 is not my favorite grocery. There are 4 others in town. Riba Smith is about 2 miles from the bus terminal in the Cubita Hotel complex. Prices are a little tiny bit higher, it is smaller but cleaner and has more American brands, but no domestics, paint, and household stuff. and a good bakery similiar to super 99. El Rey is a big grocery located in the mall. A taxi will get you there from the terminal in 5 minutes. Another poster told you about the mall. I live in walking distance from the mall and frequent there frequently. Mc D's is there along with only one restaurant in the food court called La Estancia, which is pretty good. Downtown there is a walmart sized store that sells just about anything you could possibly want.....Machetazo. I buy lots of stuff there but their meat dept is the worst ever. They carry a large fresh fruit selection, and clothes, toys, office supplies, televisions, etc. etc. On the second floor is a cafeteria style restaurant called Cafe Canay. It is very good and cheap. My wife and I eat there often. The selection is always fresh with loads of stuff to choose from. For the two of us the cost is never more than 7 or eight bucks. It's always crowded but the line moves quickly. Just up the street from Machetazo is another grocery called Poll Mart. You can buy groceries and other stuff here too. Poll Mart is owned by Machetazo so the products are the same. However, the meat dept. is really good. It.s new, clean and the prices are really good. Prices vary slightly from store to store so I shop them all. I've lived here for 4 years after a year in Las Tablas so if you need some help let me know. Viva Panama

Turn Left out of the Chitré terminal a few blocks to the light. Turn left at the light (Right for Las Tablas). You will see the 99 sign on the right a few blocks up, next to the McDonalds.
