Affordable Rental

We are looking for a rental. We have read about how inexpensive it is in Panama, that a couple, including all expenses, can live on $1,500-$2,000 a month. However, just the rentals alone are $2,000 and much more! We are looking for a 1 bedroom in Coronado, San Carlos, and Rio Hato. We want to be a reasonable distance from good healthcare. So, what is the deal? What is the truth about cost of living in Panama? Where do we have to go to find a rental that fits our budget? Thanks so much for any reply.

That simply depends on what you're willing to live with. If you qbsolutely have to have the North American amenities, that will cost significantly more. If you're looking for a Panamanian typical home, you can still find something decent for $300-750 monthly outside the normal expat areas, such as Coronado. 15+ miles left and right of each expat colony will save you big $$.

here are some rental companies in Coronado, get familiar what prices and what they offer and also where they are located. they have a clinic in Coronado, but your health is failing or need constant medial care you will need the city for that. 1 hr away is not that bad, get a helicopter on call if you need too.

You can live in Panama on that budget but probably not in the places you mention. The more people from the US or Canada in any given area the more expensive it is. Your best bet for that budget would be on the Azuelo peninsula or up by Santa Fe north of Santiago. It maybe a little more "native" than you would like. If living among the locals works for you and you can live with the inconveniences of country life, that budget can work. If you have to be surrounded by people who look and think like you and you need the conveniences of city life you'll have a hard time making that budget work.

Thanks for the info. We want to be and are looking forward to being as "native" as possible. We just need to be within 2 hours of Panama City due to some health issues.

I did due diligence and went to Ecuador and Panama and was scheduled for Belize and Costa Rica but airplane issues negated those trips. Checked Thailand and now live in a condo for 400.00 per month on the beach near Hua Hin. The flight from the US is only downside because of the distance. Have Canadians here from Mexico now snowbirding and playing Pickleball with Americans, Australians, Brits, etc. My point in all this is due diligence. Thailand is great!

Hola, Please keep in mind living down near the water/beach...it is hot. You will need ac which cost electric....etc. to add to your rent. I live in El Valle where I do not need ac and have all the conveniences to live here in a peaceful setting , two hours from the city and 45 min.to the beach. Having describe EV the downside is availability of rentals here ....and mostly expensive. However, there are couples here on your budget doing it and living a better life than before...I have a fully furnish casita for $350. per week or $75 per nite..come check out the mountains for a couple of [email protected] for pics and availability.

What is the location and name of your condo on the beach near Hua Hin? I have considered Thailand but thought the monthly costs were high. Can you let me know what is included in the $400?

Condochain is on the beach and is very affordable but most of the time you need to locate an owner in order to rent. The staff do not keep a list of vacancies but there are many especially when low season begins in April-May. Cose to Market Village Mall, bus station, etc.
VIP Condochain toward Cha-Am is much nicer I believe but beach access is not super.
