From the U.S. Embassy:
Zika virus infection is an emerging infection now widespread through much of Latin America. There is a strong potential that this infection will continue to spread. A Zika infection spreads through mosquito bites and is typically manifested as a mild flu-like illness, fever, a rash, conjunctivitis, and joint pains but most cases are “silent”, meaning that the infected person feels no symptoms at all. Health authorities such as the U.S. Center for Disease Control and World Health Organization harbor serious concerns that an infection during pregnancy can cause birth defects in new borns whose mothers may have been infected with the Zika virus. The latest list of all the countries covered by the CDC Travel Alert Level 2 can be found here: CDC Travel Health Information. The Panamanian Ministry of Health (MINSA) has confirmed 50 Zika cases. To date, the outbreak has been confined to the Guna Yala province. MINSA Department of Epidemiology is working with the Gorgas Memorial Institute to control mosquitos in the affected areas. Gorgas provides the testing facilities for Zika. The latest notices from MINSA can be found here. For the latest and more in-depth information, please also see the following: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Zika Virus Pan American Health Organization Zika Virus

Hold on there. It has not been definitively established that it spreads by mosquito. There is an association...and it also spreads by sexual intercourse.... Which came first????

Google it. You will find that mosquitos do transmit it even though there are other ways you can get it.

The tpad vaccine they required pregnant women to have in Brazil about 10 months prior to this all happening is being theorized as causing it. Google this too. The "Zika virus has been around for decades" so why now all the problems with it?? Research it all.

Bob12, Evidently you don't keep up with the news. It's the politicians and the Health Dept. that have an issue. If you live in Central or South America and have a family member or friend who is expecting I would be concerned if you want to be If not, dont worry about it. Business as usual

Should we worry about the hundreds of thousands of christians slaughtering themselves in El Salvador? A place where abortions are absolutely illegal, even if mother dies? For that matter the Christians of Colombia who actually have human chop shops? Or Christian Mexico whose security leadership would disappear"schoolchildren demonstrating against the cartels? Thrown from helicopters over the ocean?Christian Argentina. And Christian Chile? Guatemala..Christian. Violent savages in Christian Latin America.

To Gemancopecito: Apparently, you did not understand my former comment. Keeping up with the news does not mean turning on the TV and reading the newspapers. It MEANS doing your own research! You can't rely on mainstream media to tell the truth! Yes, it is true that the media does give "snippets of information and runs with it". My point was to research what is going on yourself. I never said that pregnant women do not have to be concerned. I questioned the cause of this "virus". let's not be so hostile towards others with advise/opinions that you don't agree with. You dissuade others from posting comments when you attack people on the forum.

This may not be all that true. Zika has been known to exist since 1947. It has probably existed for millions of years and may have been around the world many times over. Brasil actually has only 404 tested cases of zika, of which only 17 may be real. The US has thousands of brain shrinking cases, but nobody seems to notice this. These cases are not actually being tested and are just guesses as you could find the protein of zika almost everywhere dues to its existence for millions of years. The statement from the 'authorities' actually says there MAY be a relation; not fact. The truth is that Brasil has dealt with major pesticides and the newer DTAP vaccines and may be the real cause. It may also be an excuse to release more GMO mosquitos everywhere without real facts. We are being lied to folks. Take a serious look at this before getting all excited over this.

Illselden. Better to say the aids virus found a most amenable host in primates, and hominoids. Originated?? Who has that answer. Ebola lurks in certain places ,probably other viruses as well. The mutation issue is Very real.and fear if one type"mates" with another at molecular level. I believe all viruses have the potential to be lethal.

Ok. Well taken. The Origen from the Zika forest in Uganda. Discovered in the 4 legged primates -monkeys- then humans. Closely related to the dengue fever. Spread by mosquitoes and they claim sex.

here an excerpt from "pestworld" for insect lovers
2015 Bugs Without Borders Survey
The following bed bug facts and statistics are compiled from the 2015 Bugs Without Borders survey, conducted by NPMA and the University of Kentucky:
Nearly all (99.6 percent) pest professionals have treated bed bugs in the past year, unchanged from 2013, but higher compared to five, 10 and 15 years ago.
The top three places where pest professionals report finding bed bugs are apartments/condominiums (95 percent) and single-family homes (93 percent) and hotels/motels (75 percent). Past surveys have shown these environments to consistently be the top three where bed bugs have been encountered.
Bed bugs are also found seemingly everywhere else and in higher numbers, such as nursing homes, college dorms, offices, schools and daycare centers, hospitals, public transportation and others.

So Brazil that is hosting the Olympics along with the rest of LA is willing to take a serious economic hit so that condom manufactures can make money. Really?
