What type of work do you do? If your a plumber with tools yes; plus you will have to obtain a work permit, it's not as easy as everyone thinks, it takes time and money, Good Luck Sheila

Not knowing what kind of work you do, this would be hard to answer. Please advise, then we can maybe give you a little help. Also, are you prepared to make about $2.00 a hour? May not be enough to supplement your annuity. Also do you have a guaranteed annuity of at least $1,000. a month for life??? If not you will have to leave the country every 180 days.

Just a correction - an annuity is not required for a Friendly Nations visa, which is what you will probably need if you want to work in Panama. The visa BoqueteGirl refers to is a Pensionado Visa, which requires a minimum $1,000 per month income, but does not allow you to work.

Unless you are planning on jet setting, a single person on a 2000/month annuity should be able to live well here, especially if you live in the interior and out of Panama City. You will have a difficult time finding a job in distribution here. Those jobs are reserved for the cousins of sitting presidents(the reason nothing gets distributed here). You may be able to find something online in logistics though.

you probably would be better in colon zone for warehouse distribution type of thing. that area is managed and care by Jewish community and hard to get in. the annuity could be your ticket to get in panama under the pensionado visa. I have heard of people who get papers that way. in regards to job, I would not recommend trying to find one. try an online job that you can do fro anywhere.

I have the required pension also but applied for a Friendly Nations visa as you cannot get a work permit with a pensionado but you can with a FN visa. Costs a little more for the visa but worth it if you want to work inside Panama. The FN requires setting up a corporation here and depositing $5-6K in an account here which you can use after your application has been made. Under my corporation I can do wholesale here without a work permit. If I want to retail I will have to secure a work permit.

It seems to me that IF you can work totally on the internet for yourself or for someone else, you don't need a work permit and the need or type of visa you have is not important. You will be flying totally "under the radar."

This is true but you have to be careful. Monies deposited in a bank account in Panama must have proof of where this income originated. Spanish Code of Commerce allows for income derived outside of the territorial borders of Panama. If you are selling to or deriving income from sales or services inside the borders of Panama then you have to pay taxes. Technically, if you are using a server based in Panama you are deriving income from inside it's borders if the monetary transaction is deposited in a Panamanian account. Right now this is not monitored closely. There were problems and arrests made in the US a few years ago by people running online gambling casino's from Costa Rica using servers based in Nevis and Saba. Now with Netflix successfully blocking VPN's, Proxy's & Unblockers they are setting a precedent for internet privacy. If this is upheld the next step will be for other large corporations and governments to invade and monitor internet privacy.
