Why do so many misguided people believe that Panama is full of job opportunities for expats?
Fact is Panama doesn’t want you to work here or take away any job opportunities from the local Nationals. If and when you want to move and live in Panama wait until you are retired and have a plentiful supply of permanent income to finance your existence here without having to take away from the Panamanians especially their public health system which they pay for. So many expats have selfishly taped the government’s scarce public medical resources thus depriving locals of equitable opportunities to access their hard earned CSS medical services.
Sorry but if you need to secure work for income in order to survive in Panama then you don’t have the right combination of personal circumstances to successfully joined the expatriate life style.

I do agree with your post. I think many of them are to the point that they can't find work in the states or they think they can get a new start here and find work. I for one could not live on any type of paying job here in panama. I think what we are going to see, which many are already talking about is closing many doors to be able to get a visa here, outside of you are a person of means or a retired person with money. got to remember that canal project is done and there is going to be a wave of people out of work that was use to making big dollars. at one time it was hard for me to find men to work, and the ones that did wanted 25 to 35 dollars per day. pretty soon they will be lining up willing to take less

@pty expat...you see the world is in a job crisis, that is why there are a lot of Europeans migrating here. Martinelli saw the need of talent b/c panama lacks a lot of career talent that can only be brought from oversees. Thank God for Martinelli's entrepreneurial mind and not be so close minded as to 'only accept retirees' as permanent residents... and hence the melting pot was created to bring the talent that panama lacks, at least for now, and allow the country to flourish and continue its upward rise compared to other central American countries. The jobs were created by people coming here and investing and bringing 10 Panamanian jobs per 1 foreigner (that is the ratio) but then investors were complaining on this rule b/c panama lacked the talent so they have to bring qualified people from overseas. There are jobs that Panamanians can do and there are others jobs they can't.

Well said. It infuriates me when expats take jobs and advertise their services on FB. It's illegal and makes all expats look bad.

I dunno.......I had 6 Panamanians working for me today, two Indigenous among them, lunch included, haha......plus avocados, mangos, and yucca on the way home........and Im not even a resident with a cedula........and not about to pay the mercenary price for residency. I speak Spanish prettyfluently, understand the history, and even latin american history in general, get a long fine with most of the good country people around here with the exception of a few inbred peanut brained idiots.....who have an attitude about FOREIGNERS..........But fooey on them anyway........those kine people do not create the future.........Panama is movin on up despite the incredible corruption, nepotism and widespread ignorance which whithout argument does exist.........pero echa por adelante poco a poco...........and realistically in the last 10-15 years it has been more of a quantum leap.........so all credit to em.........must be some nutsand bolts out there makin it happen.........More money on the street than ever before.....plenty of young Panamanians learning valuable skills and trades...........I just hope there continues to be jobs for them in the future..........Most gringos/norte americanos are not a burden here but an asset..........They are people witha work ethic and they make things happen......and hire young Panas to do the jobs that we cannot do or dont wanna do, haha............things are gettin better around here, unlike many places............problems are solvable.......pick up all the garbage all over this beautiful country and call it a day............now if you will excuseme, my drink is waiting............

Don't know what world you're living in, but that's not correct.
The country has been growing for years and it's still growing, professional jobs are available and more and more people are moving here from all over the world along with foreign investments. The city is unfortunately getting more expensive and becoming more of a melting pot each day which is great. Some locals embrace it, others don't, guess which ones are getting left behind?
