Hi everyone! I'm planning on applying for a pensionado visa and looking for recommendations of people or companies that you have experience with, both positive and negative are welcome. I'm coming from Switzerland so people with previous experience with Swiss applications would be a bonus. Thanks and cheers

Hello and welcome! There are many suggestions for good lawyers to be found on the forum if you use the search function. I suggest you contact 3-4 (the initial consultation will be free), and based on that experience decide who is most responsive, informed about your particular situation, and seems like someone you could work with. Be aware that fees for translation of your documents will be about 20% higher if they are not in English. Good luck!

Hi thanks for the reply and info. I did have a look through but latest thread I could find with details was from 2013. I'll check again to see if I missed some.
Any idea how much I should expect to pay (translations aside) for the process?

Professional fees for lawyers range from $1,300 to over $5,000. Your choice. As I've said here many times, in my opinion it is best to avoid "package deals" from a law firm; these tend to be padded. That said, you can expect to spend $250 in Ministry of Immigration fees, plus translation, notarization, medical certificate, etc. For a total of $500-$1,000 depending on your case. To this of course must be added the cost of obtaining, notarizing, and apostilling your documents in your home country. All this is fully detailed if you use the search function.

There have been many lawyer recommendations over the past few weeks (not years). And the business services link on the left side of this page contains some as well.

Please be VERY cautious of Attorney's who have to solicit on these web sites. Just fair warning. It can cost you a ton of money. Take the recommendations of a fellow Expat who has gone through the process. You can PM any one of us for a recommendation. I talk by experience. My first Attorney cost me much $$$$. Just a little FYI

Moleman,
I'm retired from the US and have lived in Panama since 2011. My wife is an immigration attorney here with clients from several countries including Italy. She is fluent in Spanish, English and Italian. Her rates are reasonable and her results are impressive. PM me for contact information. Best of luck to you and welcome to Panama. Scott

Word of warning. In Panama it is against the law (and you will be charged) for giving a negative review of any Panamanian business or service. Wait until you get here and ask people in your community as you will get factual information. We were given a name several years ago who came with glowing reports BUT he got so busy that his legal work was slow and shoddy. There are a few in Boquete that I would give a verbal big thumbs down.
