Hi Everyone, I would like to say that this forum is awesome! We enjoy reading everything for years already. So much information here. We have just started getting out police check and the papers we need for our move this Oct- Nov. we have been to CR and to Panama many times. We drove from CR to Panama City and spent two weeks this last trip driving around Chiriqui, Volcan, David, etc. What I am interested in is finding out what Santiago is like compared to David regarding heat, rain, crime, humidity, wind, swimming etc. If anyone can give us any information would be great. We are wondering if we want to spend two more weeks around David or check out Santiago? Thanks for all the great information.

Have you considered Puerto Armuelles? We have a strong police force, a hospital, fire department, beaches, nice housing and friendly people. We also have the border patrol that has a checkpoint prior to entering the Puerto area, which kind of makes us like a big gated community. We have heat and humidity, but we also have wonderful ocean and mountain breezes that mitigates the heat. December and January gave perfect weather this year. I use an air conditioner at night, but I know a lot of expats who don't because of the drop in temperatures. Check it out

As far as convenience there is no comparison between Santiago and David. David has the shopping and several good hospitals along with an airport. Temperature and climate are about the same. We live about half way between David and Boquete so we are about 15 minutes to either. We are about 1500' elevation and the climate here is perfect , not as cold, wet, windy and crowded as Boquete and not as hot and humid as David yet convenient to both. We are 7 minutes to the newly opened regional hospital and emergency room in Los Algarrobos. We are 4 minutes above Dolega on the road to Potrerillos in the community of La Acequia, a great quiet, friendly and safe community. Good hard working people. There are a few north Americans scattered in the community and thank god not too many people know about it or we would be another tourist town like Boquete. It bares checking out. PM me and I will send contact info if you are in the area and would like to come by.

Santiago is not so great, however it is getting better. It is a good go to city, if you need groceries, building supplies etc. , but I don't think would be a very interesting place to live in. We have a coco farm a little over an hour south en Mariato. I love the rugged outdoor beauty of that area. Just depends on what you are looking for. We also have a house up from David closer to Boquete. David has everything and is close to Boquete and the playa. David is also one of the hottest cities in Central America. If you like that area I would suggest moving closer to Boquete where you have natural air condition.

But if you visit Santiago be sure & take a side trip to Santa Fe (it's like El Valle, Cerro Azul, Boquete in the mountains & pictureque drive).
