Gated Comunities

Are there home invasions in gated communities? I believe that being aware of one's surroundings make a huge difference among several safety precautions one ought to observe anywhere. Getting information from forums such as this one is invaluable. I do not and would not minimize safety precautions wherever I go. However the blow by blow descriptions of crime certainly makes one who is considering a move to that place take a looooong look at wanting to go there. Guys....what is commendable where you live? Something must be because you still live there. I want to know those things also....not only what is despicable there. Language is more that curse words....you become friends with those who cuss...soon you will be cussing too. Please tell me more about Chiriqui...and gated communities there...Coco Beach, etc. I am still strongly considering Panama despite really liking Cabo. I still come back to Panama.....looking at another place. Enough of the dirt about Panama crime...anything commendable to keep you staying there. It may bring me there to stay also.

Posters on this forum and many bloggers talk about Panama: good, bad, and ugly. Suggest you do some personal due diligence by using the search function here and by looking at bloggers such as Panama for Beginners and panamaforreal, as just a couple examples.
Good luck!

About gated communities and the crime here in David , I am sure is around , but I have yet to witness it.
People here are nice , and try to help you if you put in some effort . Just use the best tool that you have . good old common sense .
try learning the language , ride the buses ( only 35 cents in the city )
to help you learn your way around , and find a good taxi driver that will help you with just about everything you may need to know , We have one here at the complex where mostly Americans and Canadians live. His name is Homer. To me the food seems bland , but I am used to spicy stuff. This is a good place to live , We also live in a gated community. the tourist renewal thing is an issue right now ,but if you apply for a residency you should have no problem.

Thank you, Randelnorte, I have begun to do just that. I definitely would prefer the Caribbean than Mexico.....but

Thank you, Pelonguy99. I have been living in a gated community here in Florida for ten years now. I need a change. I looked at mountain lake community in Virginia, visited both Mexico .....Cancun and Cabo... Panama...Coronado. I keep coming back to Panama. Coco Beach looks promising....Chiriqui province is now my search area. Thanks all for helping me sort this considered Panama living...the crime notwithstanding

I have two friends who bought property at Coco Beach. The project got off track for awhile, but the development is moving quickly now. It's a nice area. It is just outside of Puerto Armuelles. Those of us that live here, love it. I grew up on the Atlantic coast of Florida. It is nice now to have both the beach and the mountain view

Thanks Say, I will also take a look at Puerto Armuelles. I am partial to gated communities because I travel a lot. I would like that option in Panama because I will not initially be spending all my time there. A view of mountains and ocean...can't be beat.

If you want a safe (once you turn north off the Pan Am Hwy) & quiet place to live 45 minutes from P. C. look at Cerro Azul. PL

Get thee to a nunnery...one in a gated community, of course. I know of none here.

GATED, doesn't mean any safer then any other place in the country. I have pulled up and said I am here to see mr dirty bottom and they wave me right in. also remember many crimes are done by the people you allow in your home, a cleaner, yard man ect. they see and look and listen to all. know what you have, where you put it, where you will be ect.

Before hiring long term workers, if you ask them for a copy of their cedula, you can take that to your local National Police office and ask them to run a background check. It will turn up if they have any past convictions. Certainly not foolproof but a start.

I don't think they have built anything in Coco Beach yet. They are just now working on getting roads in. There are many other gated communities which are already built with all amenities in place.

Kombutz,

My friend who owns property in Coco Beach told me yesterday that the water, sewer and electrical lines are completed. House building will start in August.

Remember in some gated communities it was found that the gate attendant were conspirator with those committing home invasions. So gated does not necessarily mean safer? PL
