Maybe Looking for house to rent end of year

Hopefully by the end of the year I will have whatever is left in storage and I'm packing some clothes, a stereo and my 2 dogs and taking off, headed really south. No real plans unless I find a place to rent. Thought I'd just keep driving south, if I came across a town I liked, might stay a while, see how I like it.
Ultimate destination is Panama.
If by chance I found a pretty decent place to rent, then I'd just make a mad dash straight to Panama.
I'm in my 50's, disabled vet, been retired since 1992, make way too much money for disability pay but better in my pocket than the thieves in D.C. As I know very little about the area, I'd like to keep the rent at no more than $850 a month. Has to be a house, apt. won't do, I mentioned I was bringing my stereo right.
I understand you get the best places/prices by word of mouth when u are there on the ground but was curious if maybe anyone knew of a good real estate agent, rental place etc.
As far as location, don't think I really want to be right in the middle of things, rural areas suit me fine. Doubt anything at this price but sure wouldn't mind the beach for my front or back yard. Any info appreciated

Hi the best advise is not to drive the duty you will have to pay on you're vehicle will be more than it's worth. You should look around then you can always bring what you need to install in a car to be able to drive and buy a car here, I have a amputee vet that stayed here for 3 months brought down what he needed to drive here and bought a car here and had his equipment installed. You could get a rental in Puerto Armuelles, Panama for less than that rent. I know 5 people who drove here from the states. It's not an easy drive, but its doable. One lady who just arrived about 6 weeks ago drove down in a truck and small trailer. She didn't pay any more duties than I did when I shipped my car with household goods. Although, her customs process was longer and more tedious. We don't have real estate agents to help find rentals. It's mainly word of mouth and people willing to help

If you are planning on driving down I would reccomend that you contact Normando as he organizes regular groups and has lots of experience on the route.

In terms of rentals you can find something in your budget in every cornrer of the country. If you are in the expat areas PC, Boquete, Coronado, Pedasi your cost will be a lot higher.

I added some links to popular sites to find rentals. A few caveats is these sites will list approx. 20% of what is available. The won't be the best bargain available, many of them are represented by realtors and property managment companies so you can also collect some contacts from them. They will mostly be Panamanian style houses ie no hot water, ao A/C, also you will most likely be in an area where you can count the English speakers on one hand.. More rural equal practice your Spanish LOL. In terms of heading to the beach, with few exceptions (Panama City, Volcan, Boquete, ...) you are usually within a 15 minute drive to the beach.

It would help if you could give a location where you would like to rent. Do you want beach, city or mountains.
