I'm strongly considering selling out and moving. What is the typical monthly rent for a 2 bedroom safe clean rental. I'm single and on Social Security Disability. Just wanting a new life with slow simple lifestyle. Thank you for any information. Would love to meet and chat with people who have already made the leap. Jennifer from Georgia USA.

Hello You give no indication of where in Panama you wish to live. In Panama City, rent on a 2 bedroom, furnished apartment in a recently constructed, secure building goes for $1200-1700/month in the city core. Please consult encuentra24, a website, to give you an overview of rental prices. Good luck!

where do you want to live....city, beach, or mountains? City is expensive, some areas of beach are less expensive then others but all are hot and you will need ac ...which is something to take in consideration...I live in El Valle where I do not need ac or air so electric bills are low....no condos here but, can rent a home for around $800.

Rents for a 2 bedroom range from $400 a month to $4000 a month depending on where you want to live.
But before you make the move, you need to understand that you can't live in Panama unless you get a residency Visa.
You will not qualify for a pensionado Visa because immigration will not consider SSDI a lifetime income.
That means you'll need to get the Friendly Nations Visa which cost about $1050 more plus you'll need to open a Panama bank account with a minimum deposit of $5,000 plus either set up a corporation, get a job offer, or buy a property worth at least $100,000.
It's amazing how many people are getting on disability insurance then wanting to move to Panama.

If you are married with a Panamanian citizen you will need a Visa to stay in the country or travel every 90 days or every 180 days. Married to a Panamanian Visa takes 2-3 years unless you know anyone in Migracion. The easiest one is the "jubilado visa". Married to a Panamanian does not give you any special treatment. At least for now. Remember the laws here changes every day. Read the "stay at home Gringo" he is married to a Panamanian.

We have friends in Alto Boquete that have a couple of nice 2 bedroom furnished units on the canyon for $605/month. This includes electric, water, gas, cable and internet. Nice units we rented one when we first came to Panama in 2012.

Heads up on the 6 mths leaving country crossing the boarder and coming back for another 6 mths. Recently government enforced a requirement to stay out of the country for 30 days before returning if you don't have residency. Cracking down on the "perpetual tourist" Who knows how long this will last. Got our residency 11 yrs ago and have seen the immigration requirements change and then go back to what they changed. Also FYI suggest if applying for residency and a married couple do it individually. The individual piggy backing on to the other's residency would have to apply for their own residency. This is Panama. You will be living in the land of inconsistency.

Can you please explain what you mean by "The individual piggy backing on to the other's residency would have to apply for their own residency" ? I was under the impression that once you have received a permanent residency whether or not you you were piggybacking, the residency was permanent. The only difference being that the person piggybacking can't apply for a work permit.
