I plan to ship some of my household goods and have a few questions.
First, I have a lot of supplements, essential oils, teas and herbs. Will I have any issues bringing these in a suitcase when I fly in?
Second, I also have a LOT of glass jars. 1 is a 2 gallon with a nice spigot, several 1 gallon jars and the rest are quart canning jars. I don't use these for canning. I do a lot of fermentation and it has to be glass. If I leave them behind, will I be able to find quality glass jars to replace them in David?
Alternatively, can I have glass jars shipped to me from Amazon or will import rates be too high? I can pack these so they probably won't break. Just need suggestions on which way to go with the jars, herbs and supplements etc.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can give.

Hi do you have you're papers with a visa started? Shipping thru Amazon will be expensive. The best is to consult your lawyer. Doubt if you can find what you want here that would even be close. xsmemories@hotmail.com Good Luck Sheila

If you plan on shipping your stuff in a shipping container you may want to think twice about sending your organic products as Panama often requires fumigation and if they require your container to be sprayed then all your teas and herbs will be contaminated with piousness pesticides many of which could also be prohibited from importation anyway. It’s a tuff choice to consider, I shipped a 40’ container but didn’t require any fumigation because I didn’t have organic consumables inside. Your best bet is to consult with an experienced shipping & importation broker in PC who can advise you on how to proceed. I would personally suggest that you do some more research before sending your stuff. http://panamashippingdirectory.com

Sorry, I thought it was clear that I did not intend to ship the teas, herbals and supplements. That is why I asked if I would have a problem packing them in a suitcase and bringing them in with me.
If the answer is unknown, is it possible you could point me to regulations regarding pertaining to bring such things into the country.

There's a commercial restaurant supply store in David in the Beverly Hills Plaza on Ave Belisario Porras just south of the stadium. The woman who owns it speaks English and says she can order anything. I know someone who ordered Ball type canning jars from her years ago.
The problem with ordering things from the states is that there's no ground shipping, it's all air so expensive. Eshop in Boquete rates begin at $7.76 for the first pound up to $195.81 for 50 pounds. When I first arrived I had two college years books shipped down, maybe 1.5" thick for both, and the shipping was $32 to give you an idea.
As for a container shipment for household goods, you can't pack liquids, firearms, food, and believe it or not no gasoline powered tools from the garage. I know I'm missing something. My shipping company here in Panama discovered my gasoline powered pressure washer and leaf blower while unpacking my container and informed me that tools from the garage aren't considered household goods.

So do you have to pay duty on the garage tools? Did they allow you to keep the gas-powered equipment?

I brought glass goods, pitchers, etc. I wrapped them myself in old towels, sheets, whatever, and packed them in the shippers boxes to travel by container. Nothing was broken. tightly wrapped things and go in drawers. (no one sees them. Ahem, ahem.) just sayin'.

Longing to leave, We can help you with a door to door container move of your household goods and personal items. Anything that has a gas powered or diesel engine is not considered household goods. You can bring them but they will incur a duty and they also have to be completely drained of fuel which is why they get confiscated. You can buy canning jars in David but not a great selection and there is a brewers supply in PC that sells glass carboys for fermenting. My email address is sg.thwoods@gmail.com and my US number is 843-603-1020. Steve

Thanks. That's exactly the type of information I need to know.
And, for anyone else moving abroad from the states, I ran across someone on here that used icontainers.com so I visited their site. That person had a great review and his price was very low. They will ship partial or shared containers by the cu. ft. I don't need to take much but there are some things I will take. So, I did a sample shipment to see what 2500 lbs would cost from them picking it up at my location to Panama and it's about 800.00 for a 5 cu. ft. area. I live in N. central arkansas and there is a port in Memphis but that's still about 200 miles. So, that's not bad to ship the things I really want.

This is Panama so it's hit or miss if aduana (customs) decides to inspect or fumigate your container. They knew my shipper and broker pretty well so my container wasn't inspected or fumigated so they did not discover my gasoline powered tools.
So to answer your questions, no and yes.
Keep in mind that items smuggled in hence not declared do not exist and you've got little recourse for recovery if stolen. The most common items successfully smuggled in are cash, precious metals, and rare coins.
