Yellow Fever certificate advice

Hello everyone

I am in dire need of some clear advice regarding entering Panama.

I am a UK citizen, and recently went on a business trip to Rio, Brasil.

After 5 days in Rio, my next stop should have been Panama City, for 2 nights. However, after checking in to my Rio-Panama City flight (online) I noticed a warning message about the Yellow Fever certificate. After contacting the airline about this, I was told that I would be refused entry to Panama as all travellers arriving into Panama (from Brasil) must have the Yellow Fever vaccination certificate.

So my plans were changed and I had to return home to the UK.

Now that I'm back in the UK, I still require to visit Panama City. I intend to fly UK to Panama City soon. But before I do, I need an absolute guarantee that I do not require this YF certificate.

My concern is that because I have a Brasil stamp on my passport (dated 27 March for when I arrived in Brasil), the authorities at Tocumen airport may not permit me to enter the country - even though I'm a British Citizen and will have travelled directly from the UK.

Many thanks for reading - all advice and information most welcome!

On the customs form there is a question about countries visited within the last...I think 6 months. Check your airline to find the exact timeframe. Anyway, we visited Panama, returned home to US, then a couple weeks later vacationed in Jamaica. We were detained because Panama is on Jamaica's list for yellow fever screening. We spent about an hour answering questions but were eventually permitted to enter since we had stayed in the city and not the interior. They were especially concerned because it had only been 2 weeks since we were in Panama before arriving un Jamaica which isnt enough time to develop symptoms. They asked if we felt flu-like symptoms and for contact information to follow up with us in a few days. The whole thing was such a hassle. If you are required to have a certificate to enter Panama from Brazil then you will save lots of unnecessary drama by just getting one before attempting to enter. Just my advice based on my Jamaica experience.

Hi Darren, I am also a U.K. Citizen. The injection is free on the NHS and I would advise it, especially when trotting around the tropics. Also anti malaria. Pity there is no needle to prevent Dengue fever. Had it twice. Nasty. Nhs direct can tell you what inoculations you need for each country you intend to visit or ask your Dr (if you can get an appointment.
