Panamá will become the first country in Central America to teach Sciences in English in public schools according to a new law created under the administration of President Juan Carlos Varela.

English will be taught as a second language in public schools, explained president Juan Carlos Varela Wednesday May 10th 2017, when he announced the Panama Bilingual program had become a law in Panama.

The document guarantees that teachers with bilingual certification will be required at a national level to organize, develop and implement the program’s initiatives and courses that will teach the english language in the public education system.

The ministry of Education (Meduca) will contract the services of national and international organizations to administer the program “Bilingual Panama.”

“With this effort the country of Panama is closing the gap that exists in national education. To see kids in the entire country, from the comarcas and rural areas that are the most vulnerable in the country learning English and benefiting from a higher level of education is a great satisfaction” explained the president.
