Apparently, I have ended up in an impossible situation

Apparently, I have ended up in an impossible situation. The translation of my
A. My birth certificate and B. My marital status (divorced):
is
1st outlet from the population register in Sweden,
2nd translated by official translator;
3rd legalized by the Foreign Ministry
4th legalized by the Paraguayan Embassy in Stockholm
5th Legalized here in Paraguay

But this is not enough. The translation must be approved by an authorized translator here in Paraguay. No such person exists.

I have been in touch with Erica at the Swedish Consulate in Asuncion.
According to Erica, she can not stamp the papers.
She says the authorities here are "crazy" and has offered me to see a lawyer.
Which I find very strange.

I wonder now if you have any solution to my problem.
Or if I had better give up plans to emigrate to Paraguay.

Are you being told you need an "official translator" by the authorities in Paraguay? Or from the PY embassy in Sweden? If it's in PY, and they cannot tell you who to go to in order to get this done it may be a sort of common problem one runs into at times. This is that the clerks or lower level officials you sometimes deal with haven't a clue on how to procede if things are a little more complicated than the basics, so they just make up an answer and hope you go away and bother some else.

When we have things translated in Paraguay from English to Spanish, we've used notary's (not lawyers). I could understand that finding a Swedish language translator in PY (not associated with the Swedish consulate that is) would be very difficult. So that's why I'd hope your still in Sweden and can make someone at the PY Embassy there see reason.

But if in PY, I'd suggest checking with a good notary first and then try a lawyer if you get no satisfaction there. At worst I think a notary or lawyer would be able to make the authorities demanding this requirement understand it is not possible to meet. But they will have to work their way up the food chain of bureaucrats until they find someone who can make a decision.

If no lawyers or "helpers" contact you about this based on your posting, feel free to send me a private message and I can forward contact info on some we've used before in ASU.

Good luck!

For the moment I'm in PY but I will go back to Sweden next week and return in September. I will contact the Embassy in Stockholm.

I have been in contact with the translators that the Swedish consulate use, but none of them are "official translator" by the authorities in Paraguay.

Thanks.

P.S. Seeems like a can't send any messag to you. D.S.
