I was adopted from Paraguay as a child and wish to return...

Hello,

I was adopted from Paraguay when I was young and have never gotten the chance to return. Now that I'm older I want to experience the country I came from.

I just don't even know where to begin. I've been trying to do research, but I'm hearing such mixed messages that I don't know what to believe.

Hearing that the country I came from is "disgusting, poor, and corrupt" is both painful and disheartening to say the least. Is it even worth visiting?

I've always dreamt of living in Paraguay for a time just to experience the life I could have lived.

Does anyone have any advice? Thank you for your time.

Come here only if you have income outside of the country. If not, you will quickly find out that salaries are indeed very low and you probably won't be able to sustain yourself very long. Now as to the rest of the negatives, corruption, poor and expensive its all true. There is no freedom of travel, you have to go checkpoints after checkpoints by crooked COPs so there is really very little movement within the country. So unless you are totally fed up where or filthy rich you are stay there!

you might see things diferent from others considering your roots search.
I personally agree that the country is really not a touristic destination , and as far as expatriation destination you have to exchange with the european spanish population to have a unbiase point of v iew.
Too often people defending this destination have some kind of interest to lure expats condidats.

But you might have a strong reason to check it out by yourself. IF you can afford some holidays there, locals will gladys acepts your money....

I am leaving, August 24 to exact! I'm just being honest. But let start with ATM, fees after banks get done with you is about $16 for every $100. Movement is restricted by constant roadblocks. But let's start with getting here, there are no direct flights from or to the USA, none. Meaning double or triple the expenses of getting here also going through security two times .That's just the start!
