Have you or your husband discussed this with someone/ friends/family with good sense?
Living there is very challenging. Just saying la cultua is different doesnt come close to describing the differences. However, the good list is far longer than the bad list. I started going there 10 yrs ago mtn climbing and fell in love with the place. Disclaimer... No one will tell you I have good sense. Have been living there for the last 3 yrs with several months back to the US and other countries. You will need to get residency. That will take 947 trips to Immigrations office in Lima or you will have to trav across to another bordering country and get your PP stamped periodically. If you can find someone to pay a bribe DO IT! They have a list of requirements but after that they make up requirements. My fingers would tire explaining the procedure regarding this! But I'll be glad to do so or maybe a phone call w/ questions. Requirements want to see OUTSIDE income of about $1000. per mo. and additional $1200 per child. Im presently in the US and will be here another month or 3. I live near Huaraz. Taking your animals is costly and aggrivating (but in many cases ARE family members also) If you're looking for work there start looking at Co.s in the US who operate there. Peru doesnt want you taking a "Peruvians" job. If you want to teach there look at Intnl School Services ISS. Visit the country first! Spend several weeks and/or make several trips. There's lots of do's and donts. Learning these sometimes can be costly. There are a few Gringos in the Huaraz area and we pretty much know each other but we have many close Peruvian friends. Sp is easy especially when you live there. I never took sp in school. The wacky Peruanos only pretend not to understand me! Where do you live now? I headed back in a month or 3 and would be glad to give you a show you around or whatever! Maybe you&hubby could call me one day.
