Hello,

I am thinking about moving to Peru.

I would appreciate your advice on where to move,
considering the following points (sorted from
most important to less important):
- Cost of living, the lower the better. I can spend on average
800USD per month.

- I want to live on the ocean or on the lake.

- Not humid climate, I hate sultry/muggy weather.

- During summer sunny weather for most of the day,
temperature of the water (in the ocean or lake) over 20 °C.

- Calm ocean (no tall waves), which allows swimming backstroke.

- Average Maximum Temperature in the summer below 90°F (32°C).

- Four seasons.

- Quiet environment, I need quiet place to work.

- Reliable Internet connection which allows Skype calls to North America. I need Internet connection for most of the day.

- ATM machine.

- Not too much populated, the less people the better.

I will be grateful for your answers,
Robert

Robertt,

I've lived in Peru for 12 years and it sounds to me like you are looking for a place like Brazil so I would suggest moving there.

The ocean would be the Pacific, water temperatures are cold throughout the year. Humidity, in Lima, runs in the 70%-95% range in the winter, which lasts 8-9 months out of the year temperatures are 10 degrees C-20 degrees C in the winter and 18-28 in the summer. Lakes are found in the mountains or Jungle. Temps in the mountains are not so bad but you will not find ATM's or too many places with decent Internet. The Amazon temps. are in the 25-40 degree range almost year around with humidity anywhere from 40%-90%

Parts are of the Peruvian Coast are surf mecca's because of the waves, so that leaves calm seas out for you.

Four seasons, maybe in the mountains, but generally only two, one is cool and dry, the other cool and wet.

Quiet environment, has been ruled out by your other requirements.

Reliable Internet connection which allows Skype calls to North America: maybe in the larger cities.

- ATM machine: see above

- Not too much populated, the less people the better: ruled out by your other requirements

All of what you are looking for, I believe, is a non-existent Shangri-la. Let me know if you find it even in Brazil.

I would recommend you to explore the Andes cities such as Huraz for example. If you prefer to be very close to the capital, Lima, Chincha or Ica can be an otion.

I traveled the along most of the coast of South America between Pedernales, Ecuador and Iquique, Chile earlier this year.

The first reply to your query is essentially correct, but you might find that the northernmost coast of Peru - north of Piura and the southern coast of Ecuador (as far north as Bahia de Caraquez), may meet most of your conditions except for the fact that you will not experience 4 seasons.

If you are willing to consider Ecuador, take a close look at the Puerto Lopez area.
