Hi APereira
I'm American and I've lived in Piura, Peru for 20 years. What can I help with?

Beth, having lived there 20 years, I would like to hear about costs of having things shipped in. I found in State Department's site that US has FTA (Free Trade Agreement) with Peru. When you order items from overseas, do you have to pay import or customs fees? I assume that the latter are paid by party shipping, but this is often not the case. As I want to set up small hobby business there, this is important. Please advise.

It is my understanding that the Buyer/Receiver of the goods pays duty, Custom's fees. This has nothing to do with 'free trade' If you are going to create an enterprise you need to check your status, having the Right To Work. ?What Peruvian Residence Status will you have when you are here? Know that without the Carnet you will not be able to bank.
