hi........
I don't believe there are any fees to extend your Visa.... When you entered Peru you were given a certain amount of time. To renew your time here you simply have to cross a border and return. When your passport is stamped at re entry to Peru your Visa is Automatically Extended with no fee.
You can catch any number of buses to go north to the border and of course the return and I think that would not come near the fees that were suggested to you and you could consider it an excursion to your travels....
Mancora, Zorritos and Tumbes would be great to visit going and coming back.
I think my info is accurate....

By chance do you teach English? I have two little girls and I am desperately looking for a native English speaker to teach them.

Hello!
Yes, I'm a retired English teacher. I don't teach anymore, but my 26-year-old daughter has her ESL certificate and would love to work with your girls. Let me know if you would like to pursue this. :-)
Kind regards, Karen

hi trevi, Now loving in Huanchaco, just outside Trujillo. I know of no Expat group here or there. On occasion I meet folks from other countries, some permanent and some here for extended stays and many passing through. The Vast majority are nice native Peruvians.

hi,,
I have a little more time now to respond. I sent a link with language schools in Trujillo, I hope it helped.
I do not have any personal contacts for schools there.
In Huanchaco I know a teacher, Manuel. His phone #'s are:
cell# 948 824 902
land# 973 063 116
He may have a suggestion for you.....
of course you can come to Huanchaco for lessons and adventure as well.
He is a good teacher and has a small school here,, I paid s./15 for one hour individual classes..... but that was a ways back and it might be a little more now....
