Can you either buy a vehicle (the ubiquitous motorcycle) or rent an apartment in Peru on a 183-day tourist visa? Will you need contract signing authorization in either or both cases?

I am renting an apartment on a tourist visa. The landlord only asked to see my passport, no other paperwork was requested.

Can't comment on buying a vehicle.

To buy a vehicle in Peru with a tourist Visa you will need to visit the Peruvian Immigration office in Brena. They will need to put an official immigration stamp in your passport so that you can sign a contract. The stamp is good for one month, I believe. As for renting an apartment, I have never had someone ask for my passport.
