I'm wanting to know what the cost would be for a new iPhone 6S in Lima, Peru? I can buy it here in the USA for approx. $800.00 (the unlocked version). I've been told that the same phone to buy in Ecuador costs approx. $2000.00 USD. Wanting some feedback please. Thanks very much.

hi, for the record, I'm in Peru. All electronics and other inmported items are more expensive here, Many items are unavailable. For instance, there are only 2 button mice here. In the local economy the dollar and euro exchange well and give a definite advantage. Buy you electronic on amazon, you will do better.

If I move there. As planned, being able to order items on EBay and Amazon will be important. If, in fact, Peru's mail service routinely returns pa laces because postage was paid a road, this does not bode well for mail-ordering anything..

If your in Peru and order from Amazon for delivery here DHL is used. This is virtually a Safe and Sure method to have your good delivered safely and promptly. Amazon calculates shipping and approx. customs fees and will deliver to your Door. Just know that only SOME of the items will ship to Peru. Click International Shipping in the filters to see what will ship after you search items.

I am sure you will want to use your Iphone for phone and internet. If you bring your phone you will intall a simchip and prepay service. You would need to purchase both services and could recharge or re-fund your account when you need too. You would not buy a contract because the contract deal in return for 18 months service is a Very Big discount on a phone. I know you may be an Apple Enthusiast but I have found that Motorola and Samsung and other cell phones here work EXCELLENTLY with no compromise or loss. I use Claro services but Movistar is another and Entel is the newest. I suggest you come here and go the usual path of taking a contract with includes various amounts of phone time and data depending on monthly amount spent. You may or may not be able to take out a contract until you get the Carnet. In the meantime you can use your present cell phone with the sims card as I suggested. Then take an 18 month contract and get a huge discount on a great Motorola or Samsung phone and your In Business... PS, you don't need to spend $800 on an I phone,,, Ps, I have renewed my contract last time and for s/.100 // about $30,, I got a Motorola G which works perfect for Everything,,, with wifi at home I use is almost as a tablet .....

Thank you very much Pistachio, really appreciate the information. I would prefer to wait and buy a phone there and get a contract there, etc. So that's what we'll do. I don't care about getting an iPhone at all, it was just a friend here was saying that they are very user friendly, so I thought maybe it was a good option. But sounds like your phone works great down there. I just didn't want to be surprised and get down to Peru and find that we'd need to spend lots of money to get a smart phone.
Thanks again very much!!

Pistachio, Thanks. As always, you're a fountain of information. I do have an Iphone and iPAD, so i guess, if I hear you, it will be necessary to switch to Samsung there. So, Amazon uses only DHL. I suppose then that one just does not use Peruvian postal service, if what prior post (I forget who from, but it was not long ago) is correct, that Peruvian postal service, if you receive goods from US where postage is prepaid, simply will not deliver it as they did not receive payment from it. (I'm glad our USPS does not do that as I do get mail and goods from abroad!) I am assuming then, that even if someone here wanted to send one of us papers there, that these must go the extra expense of DHL or FedEx envelope mailing?

well I suggest you bring your Ipad and Iphone and use them here,, get the sim card and prepay your usage,, not a problem,, but the contractual deals are pretty good and with an 18 month contract for instance for about s/.70 per month with Claro, you would get about 500 megs and 400-500minutes phone time and an excellent discount on a New Phone, I said Samsung and Motorola because they are very good, but there is also LG here and many others to choose....When the contract is up you can continue without a contract the same plan but if you make a new contract you get the discount Again.... Serpost, the Peruvian mail is not so efficient. I just got an piece of mail from the states that was posted last Feb, and I got it a week ago,, wow.. It make the US postal service look like and ISO 9000 company. I have used it to send out mail and time is about 2 weeks,, but in reverse coming here,,,, anything goes - not so reliable. Possible to get things here you could use USPS International Express Mail,, it is 26$ for an all you can stuff 8x10 envelope and it is trackable... much cheaper than the $80 DHL envelope.
DHL totally bypasses Serpost / Int. Exp. mail uses Serpost but the track-ability creates accountability.
DHL does packages too, that is where Amazon comes in. For something important you need it works when the importance outweighs the shipping cost but really, for what I shipped with them I found it an okay one time pay out.....
Listen, you cannot get a computer or windows operated laptop that speaks English. All Windows based computers here are Single Idioma / one language / cannot switch or even upgrade with language packs. Won't work.... Microsoft does this to curtail piracy which is huge here... so if you will need a computer soon,, buy it there and pack in your luggage. Also a stateside computer has a US keyboard not the Spanish keyboard which is a minor inconvenience but the language problem is a deal breaker..
Voltage on a computer converts so no problem with electric with computers....

I think you will have no problem converting your IPHONE with a sim card while you decide on a plan ...... I remember a new sim card cost me s/.7.00 about 2$ and it came with phone time but not data .....when empty you can recharge your phone in many places and its is back up in a few minutes... Data time is more of a difficulty but you can buy also,, but better to find a place with WiFi and connect when you can.... Smart Phones and Smart TVs are all over the place here,, I am waiting for Smart Underwear,,, ha! ok,, good to talk with you again......
