Huanchaco vs. Trujillo

Post New Topic

I have heard many good things about Trujillo as a place to live. I am interested to know the benefits of living in Huanchaco instead and what type of facilities there are there aside from surfers and backpackers facilities and restaurants etc.
Speaking to some locals it is easy to get to and from the city. But
...if I understand correctly there are no schools there.

So if you had children and you want them to go to school what are the relative benefits of living at the beach vs. the city and using the bus or driving them to a school?

I have heard that some local teachers bike the distance.....

Thanks

Huanchaco offers a lifestyle choice. Consider it a town where Trujillo is the City. It is akin to the difference between Queen NY and Manhattan!
In Huanchaco there is an ever present awareness of the Beach. In Huanchaco you will always feel that you are 'away somewhere else' and not in the thick of it. The most usual events of the day take on a special quality.
Trujillo is bueno, I liked living there and have no complaints. Huanchaco is just that much more special.
Kids,, well even though you have from 10 to 15 km ride to Trujillo from Huanchaco with a constant stream of combi's, buses and taxis or if you have a car,,,, going to and from Every day [ todos los dias ] could become a pain.
ok, in favor of Huanchaco, rents are less but availability is less........
Real Estate sales [ Apartments ] are Much less in Price than in Trujillo.
Suggestion.........
You have to acclimate no matter where you choose to live. It takes time, something you cannot rush. No Doubt, it is better to rent first until you get a sense of the surroundings and the lay of the land. You can find a good rent in Trujillo, that is your first stop and then enjoy your adventure...come to know your surroundings and then if you want to buy,,,, you make your choice. My intuitions feel like that would take a year with your planning a move around your Ninth month.......
Also, in this way you will know Trujillo should you choose to move to Huanchaco...........
Start thinking not so much Huanchaco versus Trujillo
but more
Huanchaco & Trujillo [ LoL ! ]

Thank you. Yes I can sense there is a lot going for both places.
We might stay for a few weeks at the beach for a holiday and then head to the city for the nitty gritty of getting down to it. A daily commute to school doesn't sound great. But you are right there is no way of knowing until we have been in the area for a while.

If your going to stay in Huanchaco for a vacation there are LOTS of places to stay.
I can highly recommend NAYLAMP on Rivera.
The standard there is one you will appreciate.
There are quite a few cheaper hostals but more for backpackers and youth / really / likely not to your standards.
