Hi I am wading through a lot of info right now. Have heard that Jan 2016 the new law to restrict border hopping is that tourists are allowed 180 or 183 ? days in any one year. So legally you have to leave and wait six months to return. Any takers on this one? Thanks

You have this rule Upside Down. No one is restricting anything. You have a Visa with a time provision when you enter/ usually 90 days. If you ask you might get 180 days. Before this runs out you have to cross a border. Crossing a border will renew your Visa from the date of the border crossing stamp on your passport. Once you have made the Applicataion for the Carnet the need to cross the border for renewal is suspended until the outcome of your application.

I have heard a few times now that the Visa extension rules have changed or will change soon. Any information I have given is based on the rules prior to these changes. I find it hard to believe that Peru would want to Restrict visa extensions - making you Stay Out of Peru for any period of time,,,,especially when tourism is such an important part of the economy. You need to make sure that the information you collect on these rules is accurate and correct.

ok, that makes sense if you have a residency application in process. I think the new law is strictly for repeated border hoppers....but I have not read or looked into in depth about this, just know that a change is afoot.
