" I have a few questions about Filipino cultural customs, for a project I am doing. What is a typical way of greeting in the Philipinnes? (handshake, kiss, etc) What is the ""personal space"" for a discussion (face to face, lots of space etc.) How is merchandise usually sold: across a counter, after drinking tea, bargaining etc. Thanks for any help! -KAri "

" Hi, Filipinos r very americanized, u can say hello or hi! it is as simple as that. Although in discussing certain issues, u might meet certain people who r more conservative in thoughts as compared to Western counterparts, depends on topics though. In doing business, u try to check the quality first before doing any haggling. make sure u want to buy b4 haggling, but generally , d people r very friendly n easy to converse as many could speak English. eunie "

" When meeting someone in the Philippines, in passing, rather than nodding the head like in western cultures, quickly rasing the eyebrows is the rule, with a smile. If formally introduced, you shake hands with a man, but nothing more than a limp grip is requred. These are strong but gentle people. If you would like to know more, you can join our discussions on the list Living in the Philippines at www.geocities.com/livinginthephilippines/index.html. It is non commercial and all are welcome. Best regards, Don Cebu City Where the Montains Meet the Sea] In the Land of Smiles. "
