Philippines post office

Maybe I should know better but I will ask.

Any one know anything about the Philippine post office? I mailed a package 5 weeks ago. The USPS shows the package arriving in the Philippines 11/27. I can not find out anything about it now. It arrived at some sort facility in Manila.
Anyone have a phone number for the sort facility?
Or who to call to find the package?
Is there any kind of tracking in the Philippines?
Yeah, I know.

I've been coming to basically the same city in the Philippines since this past April. I have continued to try to get mail & packages at the same address, occupied by the same family for the past 15 years. Periodically something would arrive. Just recently the dam seems to have broken & I am regularly getting mail. I suggest you visit your local PO every 3 wks or so. Maybe you'll also be lucky and start getting mail.

Any suggestions on how to mail things to the Phil? There was a laptop in the package I can not find. Along with several other things. Shipping is hard. A small package is anything from $60 through the post office (I will not do again) to $150 for the same package through fed ex. But maybe it would have gotten there through fed ex.

FedEx will definitely get it there in metropolitan locations and everything will be in the package. For more economical shipments , try Balikbayan boxes. It will take 6-10 weeks to get there due to ocean shipment, but mostly everything will arrive. But I would not ship a laptop that way.

Never mail packages to the Philippines through the USPS. They can only track it until it leaves the country. I've experienced it before. You must send it Fedex or UPS. A matter-of-fact sending any package that goes through the Philippine mail is useless, especially during Christmas time. I've seen it many times, something (letters or small packages arriving late with a stamp that says recieved with tape (the problem is the stamp is under the tape....),

Expensive things like laptops or anything extremely important either pay the price through Fedex or UPS, hand carry or just buy the item in the Philippines. Postal workers like Policeman do not make much money so temptation is difficult.

The package has been "in transit" for well over a month. It was tracked until it was handed to the philippine post office. After that there is nothing. No trace. It has been in the philippines for a month.
The email to try and track a package's location is a YAHOO email address!!!! What kind of government organization has a yahoo email?? Of course I have not gotten a reply from the yahoo email yet.

How about DHL? Has anyone shipped through them enough to know how dependable they are?

Ii have had good luck with DHL and it has been generally cheaper than FedEx.

I would not bother with DHL unless you live in Manila, outside the capital, DHL use other companies, and these are not reliable, many things get lost, complaining to DHL customer services does nothing. The best is fedex, you get what you pay for,

It really depends where you are shipping from. Fedex and UPS are much better and dependable with tracking from the U.S. DHL has been in the Philippines much longer but it's better for wordwide shipping. Cost should be similar with all 3.

I am in Tennessee. A small town named Ethridge. Before anyone asks. There is not a LDC within 100 miles of me.

I am sending packages to Leyte. Or I was trying to. I will not do the USPS again. I was not prepared for that. It was tracked until it was handed to the Phil post office and that was the last time anyone saw it. But I have been told it takes a month to ship a package from one side of the Philippines to the other. So maybe the package is on time and will be there any day.

I asked about DHL because I know a shipping company. They ship through DHL. But I have not priced their shipping yet.

Yeah, I also preach the, 'You get what you pay for' mantra some times. But fed ex is expensive! But I guess it is better than losing what you send.

I will call the Philippine post office after Christmas and see what they say.

Merry Christmas
Robert

Hello Robert,

I have been in the Philippines for two years now and have found the most successful way to ship anything here is DHL. The Post Office is worthless, took them 6 months to find my residence for local deliveries. I shipped LBC, FedEx, and UPS with many delays and problems with delivery here and in the USA. I now ship DHL to and from California and Leyte.

You need to read the customs list for regulations of imported items. There are a ton of do's and don'ts on shipping.

Good Luck, RAC

I owe the Philippine post office an apology. A notice arrived today that the package is here. Of course it will cast an additional 2486 peso's to get it. But it made the trip and is almost at it's destination.
It can not be picked up until Jan 2. So a few more days wait.

The lay-ed back easy life in the Philippines is what I have been telling myself I want. But maybe I will need an acclimation period first.

Thank you all for the help and advise. I think It will live dangerously and try DHL next time. lol

There are Filippines in the states that have business of shipping stuff over here. I find it the best way to get my stuff. They usually ship it door to door if you find the right people. See if you have a local philippine charter in your area and ask if someone there has a shipping business to the philippines. I was from Austin Texas and it cost me $100 to ship a package 3' by 3' over here to the house i wanted it to go too but usually takes about 1 month to get here.

Check out something like a Balik box through Manila Forwarders or one of the others.
They will send a 24x24x24 box for about $100 regardless of weight.
They likely have other options. Check their website.
A BB box takes around 30 days bit you will get it.
3rd world postal services are notoriously shaky

ABB box I have sent 3 from the USA to my Philippine address and it has taken 12-14 weeks each time.

You might consider LBC Mundial Corp for Balik Bayan shipments.

The boxes are 28x17x18, and the cost from the east coast is $65, insured for $500. Delivery in about 60 days. 1-800-338-5424
