This copy happens to be on Palawan letterhead but it is a nationwide law passed in 2002, requiring registration and 2 year permits for all chainsaws in the country.. It also lists severe penalties for being in posession of an unregistered or un-permitted saw. It also forbids the import of , sale of or purchase of chainsaws in Phils. There is also a "museum near Puerto Princesa run by supposed officials who`s job it is to confiscate items that are illegal including hundreds of saws set up as a display in the shape of a tree. If you read this law carefully I think you will agree its intent is to prevent people from having chainsaws. According to this if a foreigner were to bring a saw into the country it would be immediately confiscated and a prison term of 4 yrs 2 months and 1 day would follow

There is no law whatesover here. Its all farse. You do what u want the same as they do what they want. As ive said many times before, nobody gets punished here. Even when a crocodile in manila pulls u over and fines u or takes your money, he does not beleive hes hurting u or punishing u cos he thinks u have an endless supply of money and its nothing for u to pay. U see if he knew the truth, he probably would not book u. Look around and u will notice that this is the biggest difference between our cultures. IE: nowone gets punished

Poochewer, check it out....its a law allright. Maybe it isnt enforced....sounded very strange to me. It can be found in many places on the net, just search "Chainsaw law Philippines"
I had intentions of buying a larger piece of land, putting in a road , clearing a spot and building but according to this law which also provides for people who dont like you to reat you out for having an unregistered saw and getting a reward! Sounds like a law copied from USA playbook

Mate im not disputing that the law exists. U should read the laws about building. But do ever see anyone here follow building laws? They are never followed up.And these idiots who get caught breaking one should never ever give them any money cos thats what makes them nab another poor foreigner. There is reason why foreign governments refuse to pay ransoms for captives. If they did it would open up the kidnapping trade to all. Give these bastards nothing.

poochewer, Yep, thanks for that info. Im sure youre right about the disregard of law there. I want to move there, dont want to give up my saws but also dont want to be singled out, be fined or go to jail. As a foreigner one must be careful. I suppose there are laws for everything.

I am moving there very soon and will now sell the chain saw. Very good piece of information. Seen in one of my balikbayan box's and the whole container will be held for inspection. Why take a chance. It's like thinking about taking my Harley apart and putting it in box's. I was going to but have decided that it's not worth the risk.

Hi, welcome to this forum. You will find some good info and also some decent people but you will also find some mean spirited know-it-alls. Just be careful. I was the original poster about the chain saw law. here. I do a lot of reading and research , been hoping to move to Palawan island in the future. Palawan is way ahead of the rest of the country with stricter laws on ecology and pollution etc. It is a truly beautiful place so I understand the need for laws however I dont believe completely like some posters to my topic that no chainsaw law is enforced there. The province operates a museum displaying hundreds and hundreds of confiscated chainsaws among other things that were supposedly taken from owners.....They boast of it as a tourist attraction and local govt is quite proud of it. so I will be extremely careful as a foreigner, because getting on the wrong side of the law there could get very ugly.. I wish you happy and safe travels, wherever it is you go in Phils

Very wise post. If a chain saw law is enforced anywhere, it would be on Palawan.

As ive said before, it makes no difference what the written law says in this country. You can have 20 chainsaws any time you wish. No one will bother you.
