have any of you who depend on retirement,or?? think about how you will get by when the dollar is no more...all the checks stop....if you have not done so,maybe it's time to invest in a nice rice field, mango,or coco farm..needs not be much to get you by..just a thought...

When it gets so bad where the dollar is not worth enough to survive here I'll probably have to return to the U.S. to help shore up my family in the second civil war.

With the exchange almost at 48, what are you folks talking about? Each USD is worth a lot of peso's, so a lot of buying power there. While down slightly in the recent weeks to the Euro and a few other currencies, it is at strongest point in decades. Nothing that says US or the dollar is going away in the next decades. So, what's up?

Those who lean toward Tea Party and Libertarian political perspective often have this outlook on the US economic future. Given the opportunity, they will explain why their viewpoint at very great length.

catabisis

It has little, if nothing, to do with the Tea Party Libertarian, or even socialists. It is due to threats and rumblings in world corners of the U.S. losing petro dollar status when the weight of trillions of dollars in debt crashes.

If the dollar collapses to that extent the whole world will be in big trouble, other currencies would also collapse. Who would buy your mangos coconuts then? And as a foreigner you can't own the land these crops grow on. One big argument with your wife and you are out on your ear what then?
I think if the us dollar collapsed so would all the world currencies Would follow. Including the Philippines, chaos world war 3?
Not gonna happen
Hopefully haha

"We have nothing to fear but fear itself" If the world falls for this collapse hysteria then it will happen. Until then Mabuhay in the Philippines. Recently saw a menu from my Sisters town back in the USA. Civic Club fish fry. Fish sandwiches 8usd. For that I could take my wife and her family for a nice local meal. What can we as Expats do anyway? Why trouble your mind?

chance - Canadian dollar worth 59 cents American down from $110 3 years ago; why? OIL glut, fracking. OPEC, world economy & supply and demand. If OPEC and Russia relent and reduce supply, then Recession avoided. Fracking won't last long, and lots of earth quakes coming. Oil is $35 a barrel the lowest in 35 years. Disaster! Oil needs to go back to $80 a barrel and then the world economy and dollar won't collapse.

Right. There is nothing we can do, so don't worry about eating rice only, until the dollar collapses.
My neighborhood was having fish dinners with French fries, hush puppies, and soft drink to raise money to restore a 100 year old clubhouse. The meal was $15.00. (714p). It was standing room only.

OK the us dollar collapses the world dives into financial caps, all the ofw will come home no work abroad any more, hundreds and hundreds of foreigners have bought up farm land here, thereby stopping Filipinos from owning this land and scraping a living. Us foreigners are looked up to because we are rich, income stops pensions stop, wait a minute the kano is not rich he is as poor as us, The police and armed forces are so underfunded now, what will happen when due to the massive financial crisis the money dries up completely. Office workers call center workers 1000's now unemoloyed , don't forget not all Filipinos are farmers. Its will not be a safe place any more NPA will have there strongholds biff and milf they will all go unchallenged. This of course only my opinion but if you are surrounded by desperately poor people you have a nice big farm hmmmmm. You just got to think of the situations in your own country how we sometime don't like the foreigners coming into our area buying businesses while we struggle to make a living and pay taxes. No different here I don't think

@chance. your country has been bankrupt since the 70-ies(oilcrisis) and the whole world doesnt care. so the dollar will never fail.the last crisis has proven that.

Start being good to your neighbours. do some projects. build a well. if shxt hits the fan than the will remember that and think. this kano is pretty cool

Chance, I think you are right. I complain and moan and gripe about these people running their little scams to get money from us. But you know, if we are broke, or perceive ourselves as broke, we are just as capable, depending on the situation, to scam those with money. I honestly don't think we as Westerners have anything on these people as far as ethics and morals. At least not according to this article.

What killed the USSR was primitive accumulation, that is a small handful gained control of the wealth of the nation. Today this same primitive accumulation as taken over the west with the 1% owning more than the 99%.

But it is necessary that it collapses, something better will arise out of the ashes.

I have a friend that is working on the inside of the BRICS, it will survive and from what he tells me they are intent not to repeat the history of the USSR and create a fair and equitable system with the goal of international development and the true end of poverty.

Ironically they are basing their system upon Lincoln's National Bank and the Greenback, which turned the USA into the world's economic and industrial powerhouse, all the while fighting it's bloodiest war that nearly ended democracy.

Sergei Glazyev, Putin's head economic advisor is well schooled on the Lincoln adm and how they took a hopelessly bankrupt nation and turned it into the world's leading power in only 5 years time.

A purging is required for real change and it will be better in the Phils or most 3rd world nations while this transition blows over.

No why would the powers that be, be opposed to Lincoln? Why is it that they have flooded the internet with falsified history and scaremongering?
Why is it they are trying to instigate a showdown with Russia and China?

Things may get tough, but in the end we will be all better off without the City of London or Wall Street.

I tell all that I know here, to oppose US troops in the Phils, That is a true strategic step to prevent this showdown that nobody will win.

charkee - I am not following your narrative. It was Franklin D. Roosevelt that saved the US Economy through his New Deal policies. FDR saw that Wall Street was the true Enemy of the People and what exists in the US today is exactly as Bernie Sanders describes, domination by Wall Street, and the incredible tax breaks for the 1% of the wealthiest of Americans and Banks and Corporations with billions in profits, i.e. the legacy of the GOP presidents. I'm not sure how Lincoln fits into this? Karl Marx was right and Das Kapital is exactly what has happened and it's only getting worse. End poverty? Ridiculous - it's not part of the economic agenda. Exploitation of the poor is what has emerged and that will only get worse. There will be no purge, since the government is owned by the 1%. My main point is that Obama's Asia pivot is imperative. There isn't going to be a war with China or Russia. There is going to be a containment of Chinese imperialism. A stalemate. Chinese see their destiny as the masters of the world. But that's not going to happen. I support and advise others to support Obama's Asia pivot to stop China's takeover and that includes 60% of all Naval and Air Force assets plus 100,000 troops and the Asian nations military assets from the countries that China has invaded. It's about maintaining the status quo. Real change is needed in US taxation policy and preventing Clinton or the GOP from holding the Executive branch. The leverage on the world economy is the oil glut. It has de-fanged Iran, and impoverished oil exporters like Canada. Oil is the touchstone of economic change, not war.

INSANE......chance is right. Get outta town!
I live 30-40 minutes south of Metro Manila and no pollution with the fantastic breezes that come off Bay de Laguna.
Wow, lots of ideas on this post. I, for one, agree that we need the troops here to stop China. Gen Douglas MacArthur sure knew what he was saying when he warned that "we need to defend the Pacific Rim from" those who would try to take over this side and who wish for dominance. I know my quote isn't completely correct but I hope you know what I meant. I do believe he was talking about USSR and China.
I think the 1% of the 1% have always, and probably always will, control the world and have it their way. What can we, as meer pawns, do? Just try to live our lives as best we can, I think.
I doubt Russia or China want a war with the US. There, truly, will be nothing left for anyone......
It is "the mouse that roared" that I would worry about.

Are you a religious nut? Or Survivalist maybe? Or do you want to sell some land you don't own? Take a long walk on a short pier.
