Just got off the phone with my health care provider. I'm 68-with Humana. They claim that as long as I remain a resident of the U.S. I'm covered globally in any emergency room situation. $75 co-pay? Why do I think the robot on the other end of the line is wrong?? :)

But more than likely, you will have to pay up-front and go through months of waiting for reimbursement minus the $75 copay.

Woodenships: 68 so assuming you are on Medicare. Just to be sure you know Medicare pays for nothing, zip, zero once you leave US soil. Closest place you are covered is the Island of Guam. 3 or 4 hour flight I believe. Never put too much stock in information from Insurance company or even SOC Sec customer services in the USA. Expat and overseas sometimes does not mean anything to them. I learned the hard way.

The Medicare webpage outlines clearly 3 VERY LIMITING circumstances when they would pay outside the US...amounting to ZERO coverage in most instances.

Thank you. I put it to them that I would be "spending a few months in the Philippines." I asked if I would be covered. They went on about "emergency" and the $75 co-pay.. Covered "globally." Their words. ?????

I would have them send me their LATEST PRINTED policy on overseas coverage plus reimbursement procedure, not just rely on word of mouth. The agent on the phone is not the one handling the Billing or disbursement department.
