Owning a vehicle

Believe it or not I used to drive 30,000 miles (50T kilometer) a year in the Philippines. I never bought a new car. Just like every place in the world the most important thing to find in the Philippines are people you can trust. It doesn't matter if it's the a/c guy or a car mechanic. If anyone is interested I can give good references for car shops that I have dealt with on a regular basis. Changing the oil, oil filter and air filter are the most important things to do regularly but on cars, check around because certain cars front suspensions hold up better than other cars with the continued abuse due to all the pot holes from the intense rain an improper road maintenance. Yes SUV's and 4x4's are useful if you really need it. I always found a car more useful for my needs. If you buy a used car, just like in a western country try to buy a car with service records from a well known place. just like "bang4dabuck" mention a vehicle serviced from a "Casa" (Filipino slang for a Dealership) with certified trained mechanics (for that particular vehicle) is always desired.

My actual car is a toyota hilux , dsiesel , 2X4 , automatic . I use 8,5 l per 100 km .
I love my car and use it even when there's baha . D'ont want to change.
Before i had a 2011 hyunday tucscon , auto, 2 liter gasoline GLS, never again , from one gasolinastation to the next one .........
My first car in pinas was a mitsubishi Adventure, diesel , 2 liter GLS sport , 1995, very slow , i think 74 horsepower ,old mecanic , but everybody can work on that car , no problem for spareparts , 12 liter per 100 km . You can not compare thoses cars, but for me Toyota is the best . ( for my budget).

@draks Yeah those old Hi Lux are built like a battleship. Even the old Previa mini vans. But the Japanese are starting to catch on with the "game". They don't build vehicles like they used to (built-to-last). They realized its a losing business concept. Now they use plastic parts on some components of the vehicle.
