I am licensed as an enrolled agent with the Internal Revenue Service in US. Soon to retire on pension in the Philippines. Will I be able to setup my own business representing expats in the Philippines for US taxation? I am afraid I might get bored if I didn't have anything to do but raise pigs and go fishing.

You probably won't get any business from me as it is my wife a Pinay that "earns" the money. Perhaps in about 5 or 6 years when I could start drawing on SS. But that is all I will claim.

You could set up a company here your wife would own 60% of the company. Whether you will get customers that's another story.

Philippines is the place to retire and do nothing, buy a car travel see the country enjoy a relaxed lifestyle. To try to run a business here is just full of pitfalls all the way.

I would think setting up a home business to help US Citizens living in the Philippines prepare their taxes is a great job. It would be seasonal and not full time, but a good source of earning some extra cash. Maybe $15,000 a year or so.

Where were you planning to go fishing ? When I asked on another expat board about what to bring for fishing in Cebu they told me to bring fish. I would see if you have any competition here and figure out their model. My buddy runs his American biz here and has his taxes done with a Filipino guy who has his own company and works both here and the US. I would think advertising if allowed and paid for would be good to do on larger expat forums. Me, I just use Turbo.
