Divorce in Philippines

Post New Topic

I'm married to a Filipina. But we married in Switzerland, I'm Swiss. Is a divorce in the Philippines, maybe through Embassy, possible, or have I/we to go back to Switzerland only for divorce?

Thank you for your help.

As far as I know you can't get divorced here.

It is probably easier and cheaper to get divorced in Switzerland. Divorces are banned in PI...only annulments which are very expensive and can take years to become legal.

Thank you! Yes, I know that. But I'm married under Swiss law ... So I thought maybe it's possible through the Swiss Embassy. Maybe I will ask there...

Hmmm. Why go all the way to the Swiss embassy in the Philippines when supposedly you got married in Switzerland and your Filipina (soon to be ex) is there w/ you? I don't see the logic. Is this a 'contrived marriage' between the two of you, were both of you agreed that once you get the alien resident card or permanent resident visa here in the Phil., you'll dissolve the marriage? Didn't mean to sound blunt; but we need more info on your question and quandary about getting divorced. You could inquire on your Swiss Foreign Affairs, if they do divorce proceedings at their consulate in the Philippines. PS: I have nothing against 'contrived marriages' as long as both parties benefits from it and happy w/ the outcome.

Hi,
Thank you for your reply. We are married now for more than 20 years. Since the end of 2012 we live in the Phils.
Sorry, if I didn't mention these details.

I would ask at the Embassy, of course once divorced your status will revert to tourist. You will lose the right to your house, assuming you own it. Shame after 20 years of marriage.

Well, then you know the score. The annulment transition will not be an easy one economically or mentally for you or your wife. I wish you both all the best. God speed to both of you.
