I'm interested in hearing and knowing more about veterans living in the Philippines. I am an Air Force vet looking into moving abroad.

First off what does being a vet have to do with living abroad. There comes no xtra privalidge with being a vet in the Pi. Im a vet myself. So what does that mean here. Maybe it throws a flag up that you have garunteed money. I think its more about the person and there attitude toward these people and this environment which would make a differance in the type of life you would have here.

Perhaps the OP is interested in meeting other vets here. Since when are vets guaranteed money? Throws up a red flag to who? Other expats in this forum?

Advertising yourself as a vet could also make you a potential Target, one 74 year old vet was shot and killed in Biliran last Friday as he was driving with his wife , it may or may not have a bearing as to the reason why He was killed but its worth thinking about as most vets here do not advertise that fact for security reasons , most guys here tend to keep a low profile and try not to upset anyone at least not the Locals

Sir your Service to country is respected by the expat community. But that is where it ends as I have said it could actually put your life at risk if you go round telling everyone that your a vet as also said before it won't get you any special privileges nobody is going to run up to you and say thank you for your services, you will have respect from the expats as long as your not like some people that are here who think they are Rambo and brag about their exploits behind enemy lines , no disrespect intended ok

I do not live in the Philippines yet. But the VA has a clinic at the American Embassy in Manila. You can also get TRICARE overseas in the Philippines. ID cards at the American Embassy in Manila (check out the RAPIDS Web site). Social Security at the American Embassy.

No disrespect. Thank you for your service. But I too think in this day and age. Probably not a good idea to let that be known in a foreign country.

I doubt that the 74 year old vet was murdered because he was a vet. It's much more likely that he was killed for his life insurance policy. Insane insatiable greed turns life insurance policies into death insurance policies here.

Tell your other half, if you die, the pension stops and she gets nothing and you are worth more to her by staying alive.

>>> Beware if anyone say you should buy a life insurance policy. <<<
Guess the same might apply to making a Will in favour of your wife.
