Seriously thinking about the P.I

Hi everyone - I am planning a visit to P.I with my wife soon to show her where we are going to retire.... I am still just in planning stages and have a few years left to work and retire in the U.S.
Been looking at Cebu region, for long term 2 bedroom house rentals on/near the beach, but want to have easy access to medical services, since we will be giving up our medicare. What is everyone else doing for health insurance in the P.I?

Hi a lot of expats have Phil Health or other private medical insurance you need to shop around online and see what is available at the time you retire, I do know that from July 1 this year Philhealth is going to be expensive for expats, it will cost 17,000 pesos a year just for basic cover I'm not sure about other companies, just google it I'm sure companies will be falling over themselves to come up with a better deal , it depends on how old you are and what medical history you have obviously the older you are when you apply the more expensive if will be also some companies have a cut off age when you apply ,

Does anyone head for Guam to use their Medicare benefits? I heard that was something that was done but wanted to hear from someone that actually does it to know the logistics of how it would work.

In my experience, unless you are already in some health crisis with pre-existing conditions, it would be a waste of money to spend 17K on basic health insurance in the PI. Dealing with the bureaucracy would likely be a total nightmare.

Phil Health is most definitely not cheap for what your paying for , they have reduced the cover to the bare minimum ,
